I heard that on 620 this morning. I'm sure some people will chime in with the usual "Cheap Owner" comments and messages but maybe they knew he was gone so why bother they couldn't match.

The usual suspects will probably run with that headline/quote but is almost assuredly nothing. His agent and the Brewers certainly chatted throughout the year and they gave a ballpark of where they were going to be and so when the off season came there was nothing to discuss.

Was Arnold and Co supposed to reach out in November and say "Hey I know you said a few months ago you were looking for 7yrs and between $180-200 mil but now that the time is here I was wondering if you would consider 4yrs and $65m?"

The flipside of this nothingburger story is a world in which the Brewers make their personal best offer and he is today talking to the media about how "insulting" it was. I for one was very glad we did not keep him around. I didn't hate the guy or anything but I think his new contract is terrible. I just don't think he's that good.

He is one of those guys that is "more than his stats" and our clubhouse already feels a little "down" with him gone...which is obvious as he was such a big cheerleader of each player.

But I agree that he won't justify the contract.  Frankly... it wouldn't surprise me if he becomes a Jeffress or K-Rod type player that performed to his max because he just fit in better here.

"Rock, sometime, when the team is up against it, and the breaks are beating the boys, tell 'em to go out there with all they got and win just one for the Uecker. I don't know where I'll be then, Rock but I'll know about it; and I'll be happy."

Adames was surprised the Brewers never called after he declined the qualifying offer....and after the Brewers approached him about longer term contract extensions an offseason or two earlier that he declined.

I mean, what did he expect would happen once he reached free agency and the GM has all but indicated if he got to free agency he most certainly would get more $$ elsewhere?

A great guy/great teammate is more than fine in my book to earn a good year to year salary playing through his prime years.  A guy past his prime making a ton more guaranteed money for multiple seasons is a franchise-crippling anchor, no matter how great of a teammate he is.  That's, quite frankly, what Adames is now that he signed for $182M as a 29 yr old SS showing signs of defensive decline on top of the extended stretches of bad at the plate.

Yeah Willy had to know that when he turned down the last offer it was over for him in Milwaukee………Antanasio and Arnold both made it clear that he had earned a bigger contract than the Brewers could give.

if he wanted to come back his agent could have called and restarted dialogue…….he made his choice and it paid off for him financially…….

Obviously they are still concerned with Turang’s arm situation or he would be at SS tonight instead if Capra

I dunno, if they want to give Ortiz the day off the 2b/SS/3b combo is going to be Turang, Capra, and Durbin no matter which way you place them. Unless there is a glaring hole defensively in one of those combos .. why ruffle the feathers of multiple guys? Keep Brice and Durbin in their spots and just play Vinny at SS. That would be my thought.

I'd rather Arnold focus on reality and not offer someone who he isn't going to be able to re-sign than do the Doug Melvin and throw over the old 5 / $100M Prince Fielder offer to say he "tried".

If the Brewers had offered him that kind of money I might have driven down the front office and had a loud conversation with the GM.

I agree, I don't think it has anything to do with the health of his arm.

Agreed however take that money and buy a third baseman or something.

I'm surprised anyone thought there was realistic chance Willy would remain Brewer. It was never going to happen.
