If this team is more than 10 games out of 1st place and more than 5 games out of the last WC spot at deadline, you start a bidding war between the three teams in the NL West

Dodgers - Ask/Demand Zyhir Hope and Alex Freelan

Padres - Ask/Demand De Vries and some low end guy - Include McGill is you have too

Giants - Ask/Demand Adam Dunn - I mean Eldridge

I don't hate the idea of pitting a bunch of rival teams against each other at the deadline this year for Freddy.  But, I have a hard time believing that any of the proposed deals would ever happen.  GM's are typically too smart these days and way too risk-adverse to trade away top-level prospects in deadline deals - unless of course it's for a generational type player with multiple years of team control.  Freddy certainly checks the box of a guy with multiple years (1.5), but I don't think he's going to fall into that "generational" player category.  A solid TOR arm (but probably not an "ace"), but we're not talking a Juan Sota, Ohtani, etc. here.

Here's what I think might be more realistic in a return for Freddy from these three NLW teams:

Dodgers: I don't think it's out of the question to ask for one of Hope or Freeland, but I don't think we'd get both for Freddy.  I'd ask for Zyhir Hope, River Ryan (coming back from TJ surgery this year, but should be ready for start of '26) and then a younger guy like Chase Harlan (or pick another 19-20 yr old in the 15-30 range of their system)

Padres: Man....their system has been gutted in recent years (at least in terms of guys that are a year or two from being MLB ready)!  Your demand of De Vries might be about the only thing that would be acceptable in looking over their current prospect list.  Preller isn't afraid to get aggressive at the deadline, so if you can get him desperate enough he might just be willing to part with De Vries?  If I were Arnold, I'd stick to my guns here and ask for De Vries and maybe someone like Braden Nett.

Giants: I just can't see them giving up Eldridge for Freddy, and this is another farm system that I don't love right now.  I'd probably ask for Whisenhunt, Bo Davidson and Trent Harris.

Looking at the teams who are out of it already, there is very little top of the rotation pitching available, Sandy Alcantara is probably the only guy I could call a top of the rotation guy and he has an ERA of 8 right now.

Sugano and Eflin (Baltimore), Severino and Springs (A's), Heaney, big maybe Keller (Pirates) seem like the only decent pitchers who could be traded at this point and all of them have some question marks and Freddy is still better than all of those if you disregard age, injuries, or less than ideal results this year.

If we do entertain Freddy we should be able to get a king's ransom if we play it right because he would be the best pitcher on the market by quite a bit. Not saying we will, I fully hope we are in a spot were we wouldn't dare think to trade Freddy.

Would going to the Yankees for Hess, Cunningham, and Legrange be too little or too much?

Could play off the Yankees and Mets in the same way as the NL West teams.

I think that’s a pretty accurate package of prospects we could expect for Freddy in return from the Yankees.

Not a terrible value, but too light to be compelling for the Brewers. They should just keep him, try to make a run next year, and get the comp pick at that price

Overall I would say that I don't disagree with your assessment here.  It's a solid value package coming back for Freddy, but I'm also not in love with it either.  With our ability to develop our own pitching, I think I would prefer that we get a bat as a headliner coming back for Freddy, and if I had my choice it would be an OF bat.  I feel like we have more than enough IF bats coming up through the system now, but we could really use another OF (someone in AA or AAA) that has some real prospect pedigree.  Would love to get Hope or De Paula from the Dodgers if we could.

I mentioned above, but I wonder if we couldn't get one of those two OF's as a headliner, and then have them throw in one of their young arms that is currently coming back from TJ surgery - like a River Ryan?  Maybe that's asking for too much, but we'd also be taking on some significant risk taking an arm back in the deal that is coming off of a pretty significant injury.  With that said though - I feel like the Dodgers run a very smart organization and after finally winning a World Series last year (at least a non-Covid one), I wonder how desperate they'll actually be this summer at the trade deadline?

Both the Burnes trade and the Williams trade returned players that could help us immediately. I do wonder if that would be a priority in a Peralta trade as well. Perhaps things just worked out that way, but I suspect it was a targeted approach based on the organization’s “bites of the apple” messaging

If the Dodgers decide they want to make a move, I wonder if the Brewers would target someone like Freeland rather than the younger OFs. I don’t think it’s unrealistic to get one of those guys and one of their injured pitchers though

Yeah, I definitely agree with you on this.  We definitely prefer guys that are either knocking on the door (Durbin) or guys that have gotten a small cup of coffee (Ortiz and Hall) in these types of deals.  That's why I could see us asking for someone like River Ryan, Landon Knack or Justin Wrobeleski as part of the return.  I could definitely see a scenario then where we might prioritize a Freeland over a Hope since he'd be knocking on the door of the big leagues....but with guys like Pratt, Wilken, Boeve, etc. already knocking on the door in our own system (not to mention Made, Pena and that next wave coming), I would definitely prefer seeing us go after either Hope or De Paula as the headliner in any trade with them.

I realize Brewer fans will not like hearing/ reading this but if Freddy P has truly rejected extension talks, then MKE should begin the shopping process NOW and look to have him dealt @7/1/25.

Getting him moved sooner than the deadline helps to inflate the value as the acquiring team gains an extra 4 to 5 starts (compared to waiting for end of July/ trade deadline).

While trading Peralta at the deadline gives a little more value to the receiving team (1.3 years, NOT 1.5), waiting until the offseason puts more teams in play and more options of who the Brewers can get for him.  The offseason could allow the Brewers to get a MLB-ready player that a competing team might want to keep for depth or need to replace an injured player for the playoffs who they might be willing to give up in the offseason.

Unless it's a big overpay, I don't see the Brewers dealing Peralta until the offseason when they can make other moves with the collective transactions putting them back in a place to compete if not in 2026 then in 2027.

MKE will get a greater return for Peralta if he is dealt before this deadline then waiting for the offseason as the acquiring club has Peralta for 2 tries at the post-season instead of only 1.

I get that people don't want to give up on this season & a possible chance at the post-season but sometimes the better route is to focus on next year & the season after then stubbornly holding onto a slim (& fading) chance in the present.

The white flag this year could allow for some of the kids in the minors to get their feet wet in the majors this year so they can do better in 2026 & 2027..

Sure but you will also need a team to pay that price.  I don't believe the teams will give up what the Brewers want for two playoff runs.  There are teams that will need pitching but not the teams that the Brewers will want to get into a bidding war.  While Peralta may have more value during the deadline there just isn't a team out there that I think will get into a bidding war for Peralta to drive up the price.  I think you get about what the Brewers got for Burnes and maybe a bit less at the deadline for Peralta.

Also demand is higher at the deadline. In the offseason a team can improve through FA. At the trade deadline it's only the deadline.

Not one top 100 prospect. Yeah that's not accurate lol. We already have been fleeced once this year no thanks.

I love hearing it. Think a Luis Castillo prospect package should be equal value. With our lower levels and our pitching depth currently we could ignite the start of a powerhouse. Adding two top 100 guys to one of the best farms in ball is enticing! I love Freddy but I am not sure his value will be any higher.

Sorry, I don't share your optimism to get that much back (part in bold above) in a return package..

The valuations for trade to be done has changed quite a bit over the years.  I could see a single top 100 plus another piece or two depending on how close to the majors those pieces are.

With how much control he still has I completely disagree. He will be the hottest name possibly available on the pitching side of things at the deadline.

Top 100 is kind of vague. I could see #95 and #98 coming back or #35 and a throw in. But it’s a little irrelevant anyway because the pundit top 100 is going to be a lot different than the industry top 100.

anyway I think 1.5 years of Peralta gets a solid haul.

I tried to log in on my iPad. Turns out it was an etch-a-sketch and I don't own an iPad. Also, I'm out of vodka.

If not, there is no reason to trade him.  He's cheap, just keep him and play out the contract if no one wants to meet our demands.

A team can't replace him in free agency, or via trade. If the Brewers intend to contend next season, keeping him would be the best way to "maximize his value". With this said, I believe Peralta could pull in a blocked, starting caliber player (better than Durbin) with years of control remaining.

Dont know how much value that trade site says, but Peralta for Jordan Lawler.

Lawler is block and has already done everything he can in milb.
