Uribe might close next season

He might close this season if we trade Megill at or before the deadline...

I had a near identical post prepared but deleted it when I saw this one

Abner's first save since April 2, 2024.  After which he'd lose the closer's role, (literally) fight his way to a demotion, then suffer a season-ending injury playing hacky sack in the clubhouse.

A really nice turnaround for the kid.

Six hits, three of them HRs. A throwback Doug Melvin-era win. I half expected Kameron Loe to come out for the 8th, followed by Axford.

With all the high-velo guys around today, it's a lot of fun to see someone sit at 93-94, locate w/three pitches, & stay one step ahead of the batters. Great job by Henderson & Contreras.

Caleb Durbin must lead all MLB 3B in swinging bunts hit in front of him w/2 strikes on the hitter. Geez..........

I can’t put my finger on exactly why, but there’s something about the 2025 Brewers that is not enjoyable.

I love baseball & I love the Brewers, but I seem to feel angry or agitated or frustrated (more often than not) when tuning into their games.

Am I the only one?

I feel like I’m wasting time rather than investing time in watching this team.

I get it’s frustrating when only three guys in the lineup are putting up good ABs on the regular, but I’m still enjoying & am super invested in the season personally.

The Orioles are a perfect reminder that things could be a whole lot worse than they currently are.

My preference would still be for the Crew to turn it around, go on a run and get into the postseason, but if they don’t they’re also in a great position to sell some pieces at the deadline and try to kick off another improbable run of seven straight seasons with 86+ wins (hopefully featuring more playoff success this go around).

Assuming we are sellers, our top trade options appear to be Peralta, Megill and Hoskins.

I agree. For me, it’s knowing the roster has no chance competing for a championship as constructed. Couple that with not fully committing to a youth movement and having to watch a broken down Yelich play every night. We’re in no man’s land right now.

He might close this season even if Megill isn't traded...

They might need to sit Chourio before he drops below the Mendoza line.

And Yelich.

Abner Uribe throws a nasty 100mph sinker but somehow it's not even his best pitch. His slider is truly a thing of beauty. After tonight it has a 53.8% whiff rate. 42 whiffs on 78 swings. Just absolutely absurd stuff from him. He's our best reliever and I'm not sure it's close.

If someone told you at the start of the season that on 5/20 that not only did Hoskins, Frelick, and Turang have 145, 117, and 116 wRC+ but the Brewers starting rotation would have a 3.21 ERA since 4/1...you'd probably assume that the Brewers were one of if not the best team in baseball. Instead they are a game below .500...funny how baseball works.

If this is No Man’s Land where are the Pirates? Or the Rockies? That feels overly dire to me. With the young talent in place and on its way I’d say we’re closer to the Waiting Room even if they do finish with their first losing full season in almost a decade.

How are they not fully committing to a youth movement? They’ve got the 5th youngest position player group in MLB. Eight of their top ten batters by PAs so far this year are 27 or younger under long term control.

Last year Contreras, Chourio, Ortiz, Frelick, Turang, Mitchell, and Perkins combined for 20 WAR. This year they are on pace for like 11 or 12. Young players (& Yelich) are the main cause(s) of the team’s struggles to this point.

Between various injuries to Quero, Black, Boeve and Wilken last year, plus Pratt still being incredibly young (one of only five players 20 or younger in AA) none of their upper level prospects are really in a position to help the MLB team at the moment.

Y'all don't even understand, Ive muted most pirates fans in my social feeds.  This fanbase either wasn't cognitively aware of the pre 2007 brewers, or theyve managed to block it out after 20 years of modest success... Don't try to engineer going back to that, because the pirates are there and it is m.i.s.e.r.a.b.l.e. to be around

This is a discussion about why the team is not exciting to watch this year. Would you be more excited if Wilken were playing 3rd base and Misiorowski was in the starting rotation? I bet there are several MLB teams that would have both of those players in the big leagues right now, why can't we be one of them? Pete Crow-Armstrong got a cup of coffee in the big leagues when he was 21, and is now considered one of the best young players in the game. Wilken will be 23 in June.

I'd like to find the post where someone suggested this spring that Uribe be DFA'd for his immaturity.
