Brewers at Reds; Saturday, August 16 @ 5:40 p.m.: Quinn Priester (3.49 ERA, 4.21 FIP) vs. Zack Littell (3.60 ERA, 4.73 FIP)

I see no reason to concern ourselves with the Cubs’ day to day performance anymore. We are 8.5 games up. We got this. If not, if we blow that lead, we’ll have bigger problems than the Cubs.

Won’t keep winning at a .800+ clip, but play out the rest of the season to our capabilities and we’ll be the 1 seed.

LB likes to change rules to stop what the Brewers do to win more than they should. They used the unrestricted September call-ups to great effect, so that got limited to two players.  They used options to keep fresh arms in the pen, so the number of times a player can be optioned in a season.  They used the shift more than other teams, and that got banned (I'm good with the shift ban, though).  So now the league has to figure out how to stop fundamentally sound play, aggressive base running, and good pitching.

Don't forget the three batter minimum for a pitcher. Another weapon we utilized.

Appears that Murphy has abandoned the soft platoon at 3rd and decided that Seigler is strictly a bench guy.

Of course, Littell has pretty neutral splits, even slightly reverse, so maybe that’s all it is.

I definitely don't miss the LOOGY days.  That made games really long.

Side note-  took my wife and kids to a game last week for the first time in a couple years.  Normally, my wife hates baseball and compares it to watching paint dry.

That said:

- she was "refreshed" by the style of play and newcomer/hustle guys on our roster
- she commented several times about how the new "speed" rules (pitch clock, MVR, limited throws to 1st) has made the game much more watchable
- The comeback and then Collins with the walkoff didn't hurt

Both my oldest daughter and wife have indicated the desire to attend another game soon

This Brewers team is darn fun!

That's tough to lose DL. Brewers pitching depth right now is pretty thin. Gasser, McGee, Patrick, Rodriguez, Yoho, Zastryzny is all we have for pitching depth right now.

I can't tell if you're being facetious or not, lol

Not really. Gasser is rehabbing from TJ so he's a bit of a wild card. Rodriguez has been bad since he returned from his forearm injury. Zastryzny's stuff hasn't bounced back to where he was before injury. McGee is a mop up man. Yoho is a nice ranked prospect but has been super unimpressive in his brief MLB sample.

Losing Hall will be especially impactful when we play the Cubs for these five games, to have as many lefties as possible, to throw at Busch/Tucker/Crow-Armstrong.

It wasn't really a platoon, it was more based on the types of pitches that the pitchers threw.  I recall them saying that one guy was starting because he hit 4-seam fastballs really well and that's what the starting pitcher threw.

Yeah apparently the breakdowns are much more advanced now in some of the decision making………….Murph also seemed to indicate that Durbin might have been running on fumes since he’s not used to the long major league season yet.

A veteran reliever with a good track record prior to this year is just a DFA away...

Unrelated note: our good friend Jason Alexander is pitching tonight for Houston.  2.56 ERA in five starts (6 appearances) for Astros.

Summer of George! : r/seinfeld

Many of our castoffs having nice seasons.  Alexander, Houser, Lauer, Rea.

Brewers struck out twice on pitches that weren't even strikes.

Gonna be one of those nights

Quick inning for both teams. But this is the bandbox—everything can change in a hurry. I expect the winner will need six or more runs here tonight.

Losing Hall just increases the concern I have about the state of the Brewers pitching staff heading into the Cubs series and the 10 more days without an off day that follow it.

While winning the Brewers have had a lot of short starts recently and using almost the whole bullpen last night doesn't help.
