It bounced off his chest protector.  Not much Contreras could have done with that one.  It hit in front of home plate and bounced off of him before he could even react.

He turned his chest and that's why it went ricocheting to the side. He tried to pick it on the bounce

That was one of those homers that was “too high”.

It looked like it would die at the warning track but just enough exit velocity to leave the yard.

Impressed Lee managed to hit that fair.

Ugh now a risp.  Rock Ridge looked not great on that play.

Perhaps they should run a railroad through Rock Ridge.

I don’t think some appreciate how difficult it is to block a 100 mph fastball that bounces in front of the plate. You don’t even have enough time to drop down as a catcher. It’s luck based on those, and he unfortunately didn’t get lucky.

I agree it's not easy. And for whatever reason they don't teach blocking anymore at the big league level. Almost every catcher is picking balls that catchers used to always block.

Not playing great but finding ways to win is a good sign.

Just for the sake of discussion.

the Phillies lost tonight to the lowly Nats.

the Dodgers just split a 4 game series with the far and away worst team in baseball, Colorado Rockies.

Its just so damn hard to be consistent in this sport, even for the best teams.

They do teach blocking, for breaking balls. Blocking fastballs, which you never expect to be in the dirt, and are faster than ever is and always has been extremely difficult. Sometimes picking is the only option .

I saw somewhere that the Dodgers have a worse record than both the Rockies and White Sox over the past month or so.
