The MLB Leader vs. Jack Leiter!

Chad will be the Beater and Defeater!

Murph can relax and be a Pancake Eater!

Only another Phillies/Cubs loss would make it Neater!

Here’s some encouraging news beyond W/L this time of year:

- Uribe has had 3 days off in a row

- Koenig has had 3 days off in a row

- Ashby has pitched 1 out of the last 4 days

- Megill is getting close

- Hall was cleared for activities again and could make it back late this month

Assuming that we don’t play in the WC round and clinch the bye with a series or two left in the season, it will be interesting to see how Murphy balances rest versus rust.

Pretty sure that Murphy announced last night that Chad Patrick was getting the ball for this one.

It would be nice if Patrick can hold them to a couple of zeroes early.   I’d be ecstatic if he went 6

Keep giving those guys rest.   More 6-7 innings from starters the rest of year

They’re getting close to a point in the season when a 7 run outing by your starter in a loss is worth more than a 4-5 inning outing in a win.

Not quite there yet, we need to at least make the division and bye all but a formality. But getting very close.

My goal was to knock the magic number in half by the end of the weekend

Magic Number for the Cubs is 11.

Magic Number for the Phillies is 14.

(per my calculation)

How do Vaughn/Hoskins compare defensively? They sort of seem like basically the same player to me, but others likely have a keener eye for the metrics. I would guess, simply by virtue of being 5 years younger, Vaughn would have any small edge there might be, but my quick gloss sees Hoskins as slightly ahead if anyone is.

Early in the year, Curt Hogg made a good point about Murphy's tendency to PR for Hoskins in, say, the 7th inning of a tie game being detrimental. One benefit of adding Hoskins to the mix is that we can perhaps do that more liberally without too much of an offensive downgrade. Something with value in the postseason too.

Looking forward to forgetting about yesterday. Just a pretty listless performance all around offensively. I'm among those who thought Q was mostly fine. We weren't winning that game anyway. As others have pointed out, the rested bullpen is a nice change of pace. Would love to have that magic number for the division in single digits before this series is out, so...

Go us!

Go Atlanta!

After posting -13 DRS and -16 FRV over 2,833 innings with the White Sox from 2021-25, Vaughn has maybe flipped the script on his defense with the Brewers too at +1 DRS | +2 FRV in a still pretty small sample of 426 innings.

For reference Hoskins was -7 DRS | -8 FRV over 4,195 innings with the Phillies, but has also been a little better with the Brewers at -1 DRS | -2 FRV over 1,445 innings.

I'd probably give the edge to Vaughn at this point for having better recent results and being five years younger, but he was worse than Hoskins by the metrics before getting here so it's probably not a very big difference either way.

This is basically where I am at. No major injuries, just get through the games and try to win a few here and there.

The Brewers are in a great spot and we're seeing nagging injuries all throughout both leagues.

Off day Thurs too so everyone is in ok shape really.  So everyone has gotten a bit of refresh since that brutal stretch.   Too bad 2/3 of their planned backend ended up on the DL from that stretch though

I knew you'd be all over this, @sveumrules. Thanks for your good work. It's reliably insightful.

Very nice.

This would never happen (although I'm not sure why), but if they get the bye in the first round and have almost a week off they should host an organizational intrasquad game at AmFamClam on like Wednesday after the regular season ends.  Bring all the prospects in and let them get a taste of playoff culture in the stadium.  Keep the team on a "game schedule" with full dress and everything, give the bullpen guys an inning each against in a live hitter environment....let fans come in and watch.  Seems like a win all around.

Reminds me of some of the fan-friendly, early-week events before golf tournaments.

In the case of a bye I'm sure they'll do some live game simulation stuff, just without all of us nosy fans poking around.

When the strike in '81 ended they actually did an intrasquad game at County Stadium as part of their startup. They opened the doors for it, I went & found it mildly entertaining. Coaches don't seem to like umpiring though.

Feel bad for Hoskins but it happens. He hopefully can lock in from here. We could use him especially against lefties as we saw again last night but he's got to hit.

First string lineup tonight

Would be nice to see 5 or more runs tonight. Except for Sunday the offense hasn’t been clicking for the last several days. Several players have been scuffling.

My FanDuel is buffering (if that’s still the term) about every 20 seconds. So annoying

Mine isn't buffering but the picture is quite bad. Seems dark and grainy.
