seems like someone who should be on a milb contract, but once again brewers must know something that noone else does. Thats always my assumption when they do something thats a head scratcher.

Odd, we'll see the details as they come in.  Bit of a head scratcher if it is an MLB contract.   Also to note is that he's a Lefty batter.   I thought a depth guy or a more reliable OF makes a lot of sense, but ideally would be RH and obviously better than him.   Someone like the equivalent of Bader as he's bounced around the last few years

ETA: just saw the other post saying he has an option. Makes more sense now. But still, would think RH would be more logical

still using a 40 man spot, when currently we have none available after this signing.

Maybe other moves are coming, but Fangraphs’ roster resource currently projects the Brewers to have 5 40-man outfielders at AAA (and all do have options). That seems excessive.

Steward Berroa seems like a guy that won't make it past the offseason.

Over 575 PA with the Tigers AAA affiliate from 2021-24 Akil hit 253/359/435 (114 wRC+) with a 13.7 BB% and 24.5 K%. Over 457 PA with the Tigers AAA affiliate in 2025 Akil hit 279/384/478 (135 wRC+) with a 14.5 BB% and 24.2 K%. Probably just a little BABIP luck, but you never know.

Among 35 players with at least 1,500 innings in LF since 2021 Akil is at +16 DRS (7th) and +1 FRV (t-8th). Fits the run prevention mold for sure.

Baddoo's +8.6 BSR ranks a nice 69th out of 360 players with at least 1,000 PA since 2021. Given that BSR is a counting stat and Akil was at an opportunity deficit relative to the other players, his 6.6 Speed Score (29th) probably does a better job of contextualizing his base running ability and puts him in the same range as guys like Trea Turner (6.7), Tommy Edman (6.6), and Oneil Cruz (6.6).

A million bucks and a 40 man roster spot for a guy with 1100 MLB PAs, with 2+  years of team control  and an option remaining.., what’s not to like?

Depth is a good thing, and the Brewers did use 14 different players in the OF last year: Chourio, Frelick, Mitchell, Yelich, Lockridge, Perkins, Collins, Cameron, Avans, Berroa, Contreras, Monasterio, Black and Bauers.

Maybe there is a trade in the works involving one of our outfielders? Maybe Mitchell won't be ready to go for a while?

Very bizarre signing when the Brewers already have a couple AAAA OF types on their 40

Could very well be that they like him better than one of those guys .’….who could be gone at some point if they need a roster spot.

I certainly hope that's not true of Lockridge considering they traded a pretty decent prospect to get Lockridge not even half a year ago. Wouldn't surprise me if it was true of Berroa and Black but I thought both of those guys were DFA (Berroa) or trade (Black) candidates this offseason to clear up 40-man space for upgrades as they were excess on the 40.

If there is a trade in the works that bumps Baddoo up in the pecking order, I will be sad.  If we make a trade that sends one of our OFers packing, I surely hope Baddoo is not our answer for replacement.

True but I think most of us would have said the same thing about Collin’s last year or Perkins a few years ago…….the reality is with these kind of signings you are just adding someone who has some qualities that the organization likes……..then you see how it plays out.

It’s not going to stop them from doing anything………if there is one thing this organization has shown it’s they know what they are doing in finding value at the end of the roster.
