The three guys on MLB network had some comically bad takes on the incident.Β  All saying how that was a good slide as if its still 1985. In today's baseball that is clearly wrong.Β  Β They even went as far as to blame Hamilton for not getting out of the way since he should've known Contreras is crazy.Β  Β  Β

I guess for the most part though, they did acknowledge a guy standing on top of the plate diving over the plate with his hands should know they're going to get hit a lot.Β  I mean, the guy where's elbow pads and hand pads for a reason

Contreras went into his slide before getting to the bag, went directly into the bag, didn’t slide through the bag, kept his back foot on the base, and didn’t have his spikes up above the fielder’s knees.
Β

The TV guys are right, Contreras has nowhere else to go within the rules, so Hamilton should’ve not been in front of the bag.

Aggressive play, but hardly dirty or one that he would get called out for under the rules.Β

If you say so, its spikes up to me. The foot that he spikes him with is held above the base in the air the whole time. The cut on the pants is basically at the knee.Β  In addition he does slide past the bag, you know, because he started his slide way late in order to spike the guy and because his foot was in the air to spike the guy rather than hit the bag with the foot

Defending a spikes up slide attempting to hurt a Brewers player because you have to be the contrarian...come on man.

Also completely misleading screen grab considering the contact point was the side of Hamilton's knee and you show a screen grab of a low slide.

Willllllson booked it off the field like his pants were on fire.Β  I don't think anyone knew Hamilton was hurt until Willson was barking from the dugout.

His pants were on fire.Β Β

Because he's a LIAR.

Willson is 2nd among active players in HBP.

If the Brewers had never hit him in his career he would still be 6th, one behind Trout despite having 40% fewer plate appearances than Trout.Β  Freddie Freeman is 4th with more than double the number of plate appearances as Willson.

It's you, Willson.

Should we be concerned that Turang is not in tonight's lineup?

No, it's a heavy RH lineup because of Crochet.

Call it what you want. The first paragraph of my post was from the rule book. (Slide before reaching the base, into the base, hang on to the base, and spikes below the fielders knees). Contreras did all those things.

Murphy didn’t have an issue with it either….

So maybe it’s your fandom bias that says an aggressive play must be dirty because one of your guys got his pants torn BELOW the knee

How was Willson Contreras allowed to stay in the game last night after that slide and how has MLB not suspended him yet for those comments after the game? Or is this just the world we live in now? He's just being a "man".Β

The slide, yeah----although he didn't go out of his way on the basepath to make contact. That's probably the main thing umps look for & contributed to his getting away with the high spikes.

I doubt anyone's ever been suspended for words, unless they're directed at an umpire.

Also, even if the Brewers don't go after him, William should pound the glove behind Wilson's head every pitch.

I was thinking today------Hamilton played in Boston before this year so there are guys in the Red Sox dugout who were teammates of his, perhaps even liked the guy. Contreras is in his 1st season in Boston. I'd love to inject truth serum throughout their clubhouse & see how Contreras' own teammates feel about how he acted last night.

As for tonite, unless it's a one-sided affair we have a good chance of seeing either Drohan or Hall asked to get some important outs, which will be interesting. Halls' command has been lacking so far but he hasn't been touched much at all.

So MLB is ok with players threatening other players in post game interviews? Trying to think of another situation where a player has said something like this.Β  Are the umpires going to issue a warning before the game starts? This is basically why warnings are issued in games, when they fear there will be "retaliation".Β  Which would not be great for the Brewers. Miz lets one get away from him and he gets tossed.Β

Man, every season is such an adventure and is so unpredictable. Had I told you a month ago that our lineup for Gm #11 of the season would be:

Lockridge

Contreras

Rengifo

Sanchez

Ortiz

Matos

Frelick

Perkins

Hamilton

...we would all have no less than 6 questions, most of which were of concern and I think we would be praying for a report that we managed to be .500 through the first 10.

Meanwhile, we have the best record in baseball and I'm low key excited to see how this lineup manufactures 5 runs tonight against one of the best arms in the game.

I say this also knowing full well that we will probably put out a lineup at some point in August that has 5 new names that are not currently on the 26 man.

Any chance this gets rained out? Β  That lineup. Β  My god

Maybe this is the "Go ahead and suspend that guy" lineup. Not Miz though!

Lineup is bad but if you look at it it's going to be touch to score with anyone tonight so why not? Hopefully Miz is on and we pull it out 1-0.

Uribe was mentionedΒ  before and that is what scares me the most. If he and Contreras get into it that will be a firestorm. It will make that whole Siri exchange a couple of years back look like nothing.

I think the best part of last night's game was how Woody, and basically the whole team, just ignored Willson. They kept their focus and exacted their "revenge" by winning. Hoping to see similar behavior tonight if he tries to stir things up again. Although, hard to ignore if he's charging full steam at you.

Putting the person you replied to on ignore has made my experience here far more enjoyable. That is the way

I'm sure they aren't 'OK' with it & no doubt would rather never hear that sort of stuff. I just said no one is going to get suspended for simply saying something like that. In this case I'd love to be wrong but I don't think I am.

I wouldn't be surprised if there is either a warning or some sort of discussion when the cards are exchanged. That would mean everyone gets to crowd the plate while wearing more pads than your average hockey goalie, and any pitcher who needs the inner half of the plate to be successful has to be absolutely perfect.

Knowing Crochet was throwing, the #1 question a month ago should've been "What the ****-------are Chourio & Vaughn hurt? Which of course they are. And you kinda expect Yelich to get either today or tomorrow afternoon off, so vs the tough lefty it's today.

I agree it'll be tough, but if 8-9-1 can spend a lot of time on base (I know, unlikely) I think we win.

I'd flip Frelick & Ortiz.

If the brewers win this game we will be investigated by the league for some sort of devil magic guaranteed
