The Milwaukee Brewers selected Sawyer Strosnider with the No. 66 overall pick in the MLB Draft. Slot value for that pick is $1,353,100. Strosnider was ranked as high as 15th on some draft boards, making his slide all the way down to No. 66 puzzling to most but fortunate for Milwaukee.

The two-year starter at TCU posted a .314 average across two seasons while slugging an impressive .641 in those two seasons. A late season slump may have played a role in his slide down draft boards, but he still showcased his impressive power during the MLB Combine, posting several exit velocities upward of 105mph. Here's what our draft expert Jamie Cameron had to say about Strosnider.

"If you want a prospect who bridges the enormous ceiling of some prep prospects with the current skill and productivity of many first-round college players, Sawyer Strosnider might be the player for you. Strosnider was a multi-sport athlete in high school (basketball, track), and the athleticism you'd expect translates beautifully to the diamond. A twitchy, powerful left-handed swing, Strosnider has massive raw power. On his way to winning Big 12 freshman of the year in 2025, he hit 11 home runs, 13 doubles, and 10 triples, an indicator of the power/speed blend on offer. Entering 2026, Strosnider's offensive focus centered on reigning in an overly aggressive approach at the plate. Strosnider accomplished this, increasing his walk rate from 8% to 18.4%, while posting a matching 18.4% strikeout rate. Unfortunately, his hitting took a half-step back, as he hit .273 (down from .350). There's plenty of supplementary tools here. Strosnider has plus speed and a good arm, a combination that will give him a chance to stick in centerfield as a pro."

Strosnider will likely enter Milwaukee's system as its No. 2 or No. 3 outfield prospect, either trailing or just ahead of current No. 6 prospect Josh Adamczewski. The Brewers do have a loaded outfield with Christian Yelich, Jackson Chourio, Garrett Mitchell, Luis Lara and others, so a path to the majors may be a lengthy process for Strosnider.

6/25/05 - Rickie Weeks and Prince Fielder hit their first big leagues homers as the Brewers come back to beat the Twins 7-6.

6/26/05 - Sawyer Strosnider is born.

I remember that game.  I was a month-ish from turning 18 and was outside grilling on the patio and I quick ran in when I heard Weeks hit a homer.  The main point of this story is we are so old.

Cool pick. Seems exciting. Not sure I'd rank him ahead of Lara, Adamczewski or Payne, so maybe our #4 OF prospect(or Frias, so maybe #5) but those are some pretty damn talented prospects.

DRAFT EXPERT?  Yelich is part of a loaded outfield?  C'mon man...

My dad and I were at that game!  I remember it was standing room only and we stood somewhere down the right field line.  When Prince hit his homerun, it was absolute pandemonium and we were high fiveing people we didn't even know. One of my favorite Brewer memories of all time.

This is super interesting. I wouldn’t really think the Brewers would be on a guy like this unless;

1. Plus makeup

2. High BBIQ / Teachable

3. Belief that you can tweak the approach based on scouting / conversations with the athlete

The ingredients for a superstar are here if he can swing at the right pitches. Excited to learn more about the player.

Last thought, the Brewers do a nice job of not letting recency bias factor overly. Yes, he hit below .300 this last year but the track record prior to that blip is stellar.

I think this was a value pick. Earlier in the year, Stosnider was considered to possibly be a top-10 pick. If a guy with that much raw talent falls into your lap at #66 and you don't have anyone on your board rated higher, I think everyone in the war room considered it worth the risk. This is why teams scout everyone, even players they don't think are going to be available when they pick. I highly doubt they would have taken him if they didn't feel confident that he has the tools, makeup, etc. to work in their system.

He joins Lara, Adamczewski, Payne as top 4 OF in system I would think, then o followed by Ragsdale, Frias, Jones (3rd rounder), Fenelon and Antunez. From an area of little depth 2 years ago, to now 5-10 prospects strong.

Encarnacion probably deserves mention here as well.

Yup I missed typing him in between Jones and Fenelon/Antunez. Yes 10 total. Good catch.

I didn't get to see it as I was on a Caribbean cruise for my parents' 50th anniversary.  I read about it in an actual newspaper though.
