I don’t necessarily feel inclined to defend the Jett/Burke package for Freddy since it wasn’t my idea. This is the fangraphs post for anyone interested: https://blogs.fangraphs.com/lets-make-some-deadline-trades-2026-edition/

Freddy certainly has less trade value now than he did in the off-season: he’s stunk, less control, and acquiring team can’t recoup a draft pick. Worth noting, Jett Williams trade value has likely dropped since the time of the original trade as well since he’s struggled in AAA this year (I’m basing this on results alone, i haven’t dug into the batter ball profile at all).

Burke to me is probably more valuable to the Brewers than he is in a trade. He’s not rule 5 eligible for another season and he’s in that mix of guys to play 1b/DH after we no longer have bauers, Vaughn, and slightly further out Yelich. We don’t need all of Burke, Fischer, and Adams to pan out. Similar to the OF situation a few years back with Frelick, Chourio, Weimer, and Mitchell. Hang onto all of them and hope you get a starting caliber player(s) emerge from the group. Ultimately power only 1b/DH types probably aren’t that valuable in a trade and that’s reflected in his FV rating (40+ according the fangraphs off-season prospect write up)

I do think it’s highly unlikely the Brewers and Mets could agree on a trade package centered around Jett Williams. The optics of it would be bad for both sides and furthermore I’d guess the Brewers are higher on Jett than the Mets are and that’s probably partly why the trade got done in the first place.

if we agree to a trade for Freddy, i don’t see it actually including Jett.

If you consider Tobias for Sproat to be roughly a wash, help me understand why the Mets basically get a full refund on Peralta/Jett.

Jett hasn’t increased his value but he still has the same amount of MLB control and it’s not like he fell off the map. He’s still a top 100 prospect.

The market is valuing a year of control of a 2.70 ERA AS pitcher the same as a pitcher who has struggled to a 5 ERA this year and we get only for 2 months and can’t offer a QO to get anything back?

Why are we always having to assume the position in big market trade speculation when the reality is almost always much different?

I dont agree that Myers and Sproat were a wash in trade value at the time of the trade.

from last year, the Dustin may trade may be a decent comp for a Freddy package. The Res Sox gave up Tibbs who has obviously had some helium since the trade, but he was still a pretty legitimate prospect at the time of the deal.

I think if we end up trading for Freddy, the reaction on BF is going to be pretty negative on what it took to bring him back.

personally, don’t think I’d want him back at this point. I just don’t think a Jett/Burke package is that bad.

That would be too much to give imo.  I don't hate having Jett in it, but Burke would be too much to add.  with how bad Peralta has been this is only a 'buy low' for me so would be comfortable walking away from it if I don't see the value.   Let someone else overpay here if so and focus elsewhere.

I actually don’t think it is that bad but it’s mostly because I think Jett is probably overrated and not going to be much.

But any top 100 for 2 months of a struggling Peralta seems crazy to me.

How many rentals even bring a top 100 back?

I think my highest and best would be Dylan O'Rae

I have almost zero interest in a reunion with Freddy, but even I would do this.

Brewers wouldn't pay above compensation pick that Mets would need imo, which i wasn't aware of prior to reading this chat, so appreciate input & knowledge. It stinks, because Peralta value is its all time low,and worth sending only jett Williams for rental, and maybe add one Brewers prospect in #35---#50 range..His ability is still strong, and the adjustment players go through with either New York teams is real, and a bit tougher for pitchers, also the most underrated value in mlb and team sports imo is the clubhouse vibe, and Peralta is a blue chip clubhouse guy,and Mets organization continually throw money at team upgrades instead of bringing in character guys whobkive and die for baseball, the Mets have highest mlb payroll in 2026,and is 10million above Brewers,Tampa Bay, and White Sox combined. Peralta would b a huge pick up for eating innings, clubhouse leadership & playoff experience. Also could payoff in huge way by drawing big name free agents coming to Milwaukee if Peralta fits in to rotation without a hitch, and finishes strong and that seemless transition into the pitcher friendly Brewers organization is highlighted on national TV broadcasts during playoffs, which avid fans in baseball already know, but that theme continually pounded into these players/agents heads and a player friendly destination in milwauke, and not new york shouldn't b undervalued!! Go Crew, keep building that #1 rated farm system, and keep locking up these young guys long-term and thank u to the Milwaukee Brewers Organization for building a juggernaut! As a lifelong Crew supporter I never imagined this level of success with the mlb lack of a salary cap, andcu created this turnaround in aprox. under 10years,legendary work, and the most under  appreciated ownership in MLB,and appreciate your dedication to Milwaukee and the state of Wisconsin Attanasio Family!!

Also, I know Myers has also been bad this year. But if you want a true buy low and just want a body who can go up and down, spot start. I wouldn't mind taking him back for nothing. Good chance we can get him back to his last couple years of solid ok-ness.   Looks like he can still be optioned next year and won't be to arbitration for a couple years so is still cheap.     I'd rather try someone like him than a Mccullers, Keuchel type guys of the last few years.  But it shouldn't cost you much of anything.  So far Wilson is handling this role well though

Mets would need to offer Peralta $23 million for a QO, which isnt a given for 5ish ERA with how much the fans are hating him and scrutinizing Stearns.

Then they only need to have a prospect worth a 4th rounder, so an upper mid-level AA guy. I think O'Rae or Adams gets it done alone. Though the Brewers could maybe get another pitching prospect and hand over another bat.

Off topic a touch, but Brewers have a better record then the New York Mets in 9 of 10 of the last 10 seasons, with a 120+ game lead over that span .12.5 game average better then the big market Mets for a decade.Mets are a poster child for mlb organizations not to follow, and the Brewers r the Organization that all major sports organizations try to emulate, and the sports gods need to pay Milwaukee off with a World series Championship and that would set off an argument for the Brewers being the greatest and strongest professional sports organization in a long, long time and would b a great counter jab to these dream teams being bought by ownership groups, and showing what a true professional "team" champion looks like

Dan Zymborski also pitched a Peralta to brewers trade: Blake Burke and Jett Williams as the package. I don’t actually hate this package. Williams hasn’t hit at AAA and Burke doesn’t have a vastly different skillset than Fischer. Burke may never be a starting caliber 1b/DH type at the mlb level.

ultimately it only makes sense if the Brewers think they can get him back on track to a sub 4 era type starter the rest of the way.

There is a part of me back when the trade hit that felt bad that when Milwaukee wins the World Series in October, that Freddy won’t be here for it.  That part of me loves this trade.  It’s the other part of me that knows it will take more than Freddy at the deadline to win the whole damn thing.

Maybe I’m a little off base here, but I’m thinking Freddy’s value isn’t significantly more than Frankie Montas’ value two years ago. To acquire Montas, we had to trade Joey Wiemer (who didn’t seem to have a huge future with the Brewers at that point) and Jakob Junis (who I suppose filled Cincinnati’s bullpen).

The Mets shouldn’t have any need for a bullpen arm like Junis, so I don’t think adding someone like Bryse Wilson would make any sense. However, the idea of a blocked AAAA player being the headliner could work. Tyler Black comes to mind, though I think his value’s a bit lower than Wiemer’s two years ago (especially if Soto is going to have to DH more). I think the second piece would add some value (at least a little more than what Junis added two years ago), so I think this is where a borderline Rule 5 protection like Brock Wilken or the aforementioned Dylan O’Rae can come in. A third lottery ticket may be needed for this deal to come to fruition, but I don’t think it would need to be a highly acclaimed prospect (certainly nobody in the organization top 30).

I realize I am looking at this through Brewer fan glasses, so maybe this package could seem a bit light, but I’d see if the Mets would take (1) Tyler Black, (2) Dylan O’Rae or Brock Wilken, and (3) low level lottery ticket for Peralta at this point.

To me, Jett Williams is a non-starter, Blake Burke is a non-starter, and both Jett Williams and Blake Burke gets you laughed off the phone (but again, I’m wearing Brewers fan glasses).

I think everyone needs to realize it will be a seller's market.

With that said, Freddy has been pretty bad this season overall.

His BTV number is 6.6 currently which sounds about right.

Ironically I don't think something like O'Rae and Encarnacion would be out of line.
