Frankly, this board does WAY MORE criticizing the front office than praising it. Which seems weird given how they've positioned the smallest market team in the league year after year.

If May and Romero contribute to a ring, I don't care what we gave up.

If they stink, it'll give us something to complain about for years.

The system is so good that giving up 11&13 is painful.  That's a positive.

Hope we still trade for a bat.

1. The chance of May and Romero contributing to a ring feels extremely low at this point. That’s what makes this hurt - it’s not the needle moving trade that you can swallow giving up prospects for. The Brewers are still further away from the Dodgers as they were 3 days ago, and the Phillies and Cubs have improved more. 
2. They’re not really 11 and 13. Frias is Top 100 in several updates, and Ragsdale is shooting up the organizational list as well. Theoretically could be selling high as their value has spiked recenty, but it’s a ton to give up for guys that don’t move the needle to winning a World Series.

Bernie Miklasz (writer for Cardinals) just said May has the No 7 FIP among all MLB starters since April 10th. 

Yeah, the FIP is really good this season overall (3.14), but Bernie is being selective with the evaluation.  His expected FIP (3.87), expected ERA (3.91) and SIERA (3.94) tell a different story, but the same story.  And his K%-BB% is pretty banal.  All those latter stats are more predictive of future performance than actual FIP.    (That does not make him a bad pitcher, of course).

Can’t say I am a fan. Was hoping that if there was a top-15 headliner it was going to be one of the first base types. The only way this makes sense is if the Brewers view Ragsdale as a tweener (not ideal defense for center, unlikely to hit enough for a starting corner spot) and don’t think Frias will be able to elevate the ball enough to reach his ceiling.

A couple of more thoughts...

- The Brewers did not give up pitching prospects in the deal OR current pitching. I'm not up-to-the-minute on trades, but it seems like pitching is what is going back in many of them. Could mean nothing.

- In some fashion, any team can tell Arnold in negotiations, "Look man, I know you want to give us those other guys. But if we wanted those guys, we could get them from ANY other team. Give us a reason to say yes."

I know, a lot of knee jerk reactions and hot takes today, but I just can't believe we allowed the Cardinals of all teams to bend us over like this.

Bloom is a phenomenal GM who the Red Sox messed up big time in firing and we are going to have to deal with him in the division. Won't be long before St Louis is contending again and we are helping them do just that.

And that is why so many of the people who generally on the FO side of not being aggressive side tend to think that way.   There is essentially no move they can make that gets them off the 8-12ish percent chances.  So it becomes very risky to potentially give up someone that could change their chances drastically a few years down the line.       Skubal is essentially the only move that could shifted their odds significantly.

Much lesser thought of additions have helped lead charges to World Series championships. You never know who is going to firing on all cylinders come October

I know they can't be perfect, but this is a loss, a big giant stinky pile of crap loss.

And the chances of that being May who is arguably the #5 starter and an injured left handed reliever that is not named Aroldis being that difference maker is incredibly small.

I don't like the price to get 'em but I think you're pretty dramatically underestimating the usefulness of both May and Romero
