That's a lot to give up but I dont think its an overpay, it depends on how you value those to OFs. I dont rate either of them as highly as others do on this site. They have plenty of depth.  Too bad it did not help the Rule 5 draft protection as neither had to be protected,

Frias was just ranked #43 in the fangraphs top 100, the two prospects that were traded that are ahead of him are Eyanson and Ryan, who were traded for Rutschman and Skubal lol. This is hard to believe

Don't worry about it. Lewis Brinson and Matt LaPorta say hi. Chances are Frias and Ragsdale flame out more than they become studs. If they become studs, so be it. Arnold is playing the odds and trying to get some help for a darn good team that we have now. Let's just let it play out.

This is an overpay. But looking at what the return has been for others, it seems about par for the course for this year’s trade deadline.

This feel like a Monkey’s Paw trade. People were banging the table for a trade. Any trade. They were bored and wanted some action just because they were bored and wanted their shiny new toys.

Now we overpaid for rentals. How’s that for action?

The ONE..."rule" I have with these trades, don't EVER give up teenagers who've shown some upside. Frias may end up a bust... OR he may end up Fernando Tatis Jr. I'd honestly rather we gave up Adamczewski. 

This is jsut sooo much. It feels like it HAS to be one or the other. 

How is he the Brewers 3rd best starter now? By what measure? Drohan and Henderson both have better FIP, WHIP, ERA, ERA+, K/BB, etc. Essentially all 3 the same in Stuff +. 

I don’t see how May upgrades the roster for the postseason.

When it comes to looking at potential future value to an organization - this is a tough trade to swallow as a Brewer fan who likes seeing them have talent and depth across their system.

When it comes to a pure numbers game, the Brewers currently have a bevy of young and toolsy OF talent (two of which are signed to longterm contracts) already in Milwaukee, and their system still has similar-aged OF prospect depth that is as hyped or even more as these two.  

It may not solve any immediate minor league /40 man roster control for the logjam that is headed towards Milwaukee, but it does open up playing time for other guys on the way up/through the system that are also developing.  I hope both of these guys find a way to have long, insignificant baseball careers as long as they're in the Cardinal organization.

A few things:

 

1) The way we value prospects or how a guy behind a screen at Baseball America values a prospect doesn’t equate to reality in a trade always.

2) We have two OF spots taken up by long term contracts. The uphill battle to even get a roster spot and full playing time is pretty steep.

3) There were, at minimum, two other players higher rated than them in the minor league system. And arguably those 2+ players are all closer to the MLB roster.

I see clamoring to sell high on players around here, but usually only players anyone with a baseball IQ over 40 would know is at their peak value. Possible we just sold high on some prospects that had little chance to ever crack our MLB roster anyway.

Clearly, the Brewers do not think that highly of Frias. I think I will just give them the benefit of the doubt even though it doesn’t thrill me at face value.

And today I noticed there was a poll on the Front page that asked what team in the division I despised the most.  I picked the SCRUBS, but after this it is back to the fricking Cardinals.   Man oh man.

Yeah.   But the whole idea is to get a return for their potential.    Teams are giving way less than that for better players.    This is dumb and those guys could really burn us with a division rival
