Can I ask those who wanted a bat what bat that was acquired at the deadline would have been a needle mover and who you would have given their reps to from our existing lineup?

I don't think wanting a bat is coming from a rational analysis of deals made and matchups, it's just reading like BUT I WANTED A BAT!!!!!

Perhaps that's unfair, but that's how it reads to me.

There were none, which is why I would've stood pat or just done the Senzatela deal.

Doesn't meant I don't hate the deal, I actually really do. (Cursed out load as I was reading mlbtr, causing some nearby humans to raise eyebrows), but I have to assume that if Frias really looked like a Caminero-to-be to the people who see him most and know him best, they'd not include him in a deal for a rental arm or two.

I probably would have been upset at any two of our top 30 guys going for this return but I really like Ragsdale and Frias. And so do a lot of people outside our little bubble. Bummer but hoping May can do his thing and get us over the hump.

I still don’t like this deal, but seeing the totality of the deadline deals, I wonder if prospect lists are lagging behind team evaluations in one bigger picture regard. Outside of the Red Sox going full Padres, it generally felt like the packages that felt light contained pitchers and the ones that felt like overpays contained hitters. I wonder if Hardin, Letson and Knoth are the most valuable Brewers minor leaguers not named Made or Pena.

Or, that could just be the cold medicine talking.

I'm pretty happy we survived the deadline and still have Knoth, Hardin, Letson, Burke, Fischer, Pena and Made, just to name a few...

I do think we have a ridiculous imbalance in that we have a ton of great position player prospects but are awfully light on pitching and was thinking we'd have to trade a few but I really wanted it to be for pitching with multiple years of control not rentals and if you are going the rental route go ultra big for Skubal. Nothing against May whatsoever but the price was way too high for a good but not elite rental and damn I hate that its within the division.

It’s a sellers market, they’ve now acquired four players and given up one prospect who was on a Top 100 list and it’s all doom and gloom. Yet, the same folks would jump up and down if they stood pat and ran it back with who they had.

Dude, why do you do this?  You make such good points when you stick to civil conversation, even though I probably disagree with you more than half the time. But then you do these things where it seems like no one gave you the talking-to we all needed in kindergarten. FWIW, I thought Joseph’s take on Ragsdale was a bit hyperbolic too. But he’s one of the maybe five most knowledgeable people about the Brewers’ system who doesn’t work for the Brewers. I’ve never once seen him dump on anyone remotely like you just dumped on him. Please stop.

Yeah, it was a bunch of baloney “plug and play in MLB”?  Typically the armchair GM‘s here when you disagree about the inevitability of prospects and bring up the fact that 90% of them fail the common response is “I follow these guys and you don’t know what you’re talking about”. 
 

So I took the approach that if you’re serious about some guy that’s had 26 games above A ball as “plug and play”  in the major leagues,  let’s put a little money on it and see who it is right.
 

Obviously I got no takers. But lets be clear on one insinuation, I wasn’t being mean or disrespectful, used no name calling or impugned anyone’s fandom. It was merely pointing out nonsense  when I saw it.

Frias is #4 in the stl top30 on the mlb websites. Ridiculous! I think we just did a sell high like we did with with Boston in the Priester deal.

Those arguments may end up being right on. Nobody has any idea what Frias and Ragsdale will do as big-leaguers. I'm not up in arms about this trade in any way. I think it seems reasonable. But I'll happily admit that I'm nervous we didn't get more for two really fun, young OFers. 

I'm just not sure how anyone can be so absolutely certain this is an overpay and compare it to crapping down one's leg or selling a luxury vehicle for cheap. All of that just feels like Internet forum venting. Which is fine. But then, like, don't pretend it's something else.

I would say it’s pretty well understood that when someone here says (like I did too) “this trade is an overpay,” they mean “To the best of my knowledge, which is nothing to sneeze at, this trade is an overpay,” rather than “I am all-knowing, and I declare as holy writ that this trade is an overpay.” You seem to be saying that the first is fine (“the good argument”) and the second is overkill. I completely agree with that. I just think you’re mistaken if you believe anyone here intends the second. Emotions are high, that’s all.
