It feels like those two could have been the backbone of a Skubel deal. Add two more pieces and make it happen. Nobody would be complaining if that was the get back.

Whatever any of us thinks about this trade, kudos to Brandon Sproat for making such a strong effort to justify it.

Actually no it couldn't. The Tigers were very clear in wanting some pitching in the return for Skubal

Ok, Logan Henderson and Coleman Crow. I'd take River Ryan over Henderson.

I asked the hive mind last week about deadline trades that actually moved the needle as far as the 2026 Brewers need to move it — from losing the LCS to winning it. What people came up with were basically some starting pitchers: Cone, Verlander, Sutton IIRC. 

We could all be forgetting someone, of course, and I certainly can’t sit here and say it’s impossible to pick up a hitter who could get a team over that line. But if a strategy has rarely if ever worked before, I have a hard time getting upset about not pursuing it.

I learned here today that C J Abrams and anybody else is available for the right price (Jesus Made plus)

Between Ragsdale and Frias, giving up Frias hurts me the most. It's not every day you see a prospect get that much hype and skyrocket as quickly as he did, and Fangraphs did hype him up quite a bit with talks of his "crazy" bat speed. That being said, whenever we trade away prospects/young players, more often than not we don't end up missing them in the long run. I just hope that our player evaluation is on point this time as well.

Well this has been an absolute joy. I said it before and I'll say it again, I love waking up to these types of posts.

Going into reading this thread I actually knew the trade details so the first four pages had me wincing a bit because I knew that the last 14 pages would be rough to read. 

Yes, Ragsdale is 23 years old,.... no, id be very surprised if he went straight into Major League Baseball (but that speaks more to the Cardinals depth than to Ragsdale's skill).. yes, there are developmental risk with Frias but the bottom line is we had to get pitching and we had to get starting pitching to eat Innings because the Henderson, Gasser, Crow, Sprout, and Drohan crew haven't built up enough innings. We sold high and we sold from a position of strength....not surprising for Arnold to do that.

We actually get three relievers because I think that, based on reading a former Brewer fanatic article, Sproat will go to the bullpen and maximize his talents once through the lineup. 

Yeah the value sucks on paper but I haven't thought about Yophery one damn day since the Quinn Priestor (sp?) trade.

Also Arnold is not operating in a vacuum... he has to justify the trade to ownership and to the scouts....there may have been some pushback but not enough to prevent the trade going through. 

I need to go read more about this Colorado kid with the long name.... but I am glad we did something... I just hope it leads to the Cubs flying the L and advancing to the World Series. 🙏
