Maybe this belongs on another thread but after watching that play and seeing Murphy comments again I think Murphy needs to apologize to Pratt.    He was wrong   He embarrassed the kid for something  that wasn’t egregious at all

the team looks pretty tight especially when its run scoring opportunities  (Chourio for godsakes)     Murphy needs to get them to relax some and not be on edge because they screw up a bunt or something

it was the sequence of plays, not the one. jogging to first a few days ago. pulling the bunt back on a middle-middle pitch. failing to get out of the box on a flare

If we are going to rely heavily on rookies, we have to expect such things from players like Cooper Prat on occasion. 

All of those things Pratt did are teaching moments.  Murphy should have held conversations with the kid when those things happen.  Making an example of him like he did was a mistake, and in the end, made Murphy look bad.  Actually made him look like a bit of a jackass.  His explanations in the post game presser did him no favors either.

It was a mistake on Murphy's part, that likely cost us the game.  Hopefully he has taken some stock in this fact, and gets better in the future.  Not holding my breath though, he is one stubborn SOB at times.

Yeah I think I exclaimed audibly when he pulled the bat back on that pitch - that was really bad.

I think we have to trust that Murphy knows how to handle his players. Pratt didn't seem offended by it, he took it to heart and I'm sure it won't happen again. What we think about it really doesn't matter. It's his college coach background showing through, and it's what's helping this team operate at an elite level (and may get him an unprecedented 3rd straight MOY).

Maybe rookies shouldn't be getting ridiculous contracts before they step foot on a Major League field.  Just saying.

It’s about the only way for us to keep elite and even great players beyond their 6 years initial control, and who knows, that control may be less than 6 years after the new CBA. 

Even on a player like Brice Turang, the ship has sailed. We will not be paying him once he reaches free agency.

To me, its seemed like the old school stuff has been lightened up on the last year or so as they've simply embraced Contreras not running, Chourio not running, Yelich not running, Sanchez not running, etc.   IMO, that is generally fine to reduce wear and tear and injury risk.  Old school run through the wall type bs is mostly just for show so I thought they'd decided to lighten up on it.  Then to all of a sudden make a big deal about it when on that exact play he didn't really do anything wrong.  Essentially, being wrong on a bunt decision is no different than being wrong on reading any other pitch.    Overall, it won't be a big deal and seems Pratt will take it the right way.  But to me it made Murphy look like a grumpy old man and a hypocrite more than anything

It's just classic coachspeak. He wouldn't have done that to anybody else on the roster.

I’m guessing that Pratt got the talking to after he jogged to first on Saturday. Doing the same thing two games later may have warranted sterner  action.

Should be getting a lot more playing time at DH going forward then but that would mean Yelich gets less playing time which seems like a no go for Pat Murphy

Having a dedicated DH on the roster is great if it’s Yordan Alvarez because it’s worth it. 

Having a dedicated DH that is no better or worse of a hitter than your fielding position players is really kind of a detriment to everyone over the course of a long full season because you’re missing 162 opportunities to get other guys partial rest days who really need it.

But to me it looked like he actually ran it out.   I don’t know if he knew where it was like he fouled it back or something.   I found it weird.   I guess if Pratt has couple more birthdays he can just jog around like Contreras all game

Cubs lose 2-0

Pretty listless performance yesterday all around. Getting to the long point of the season, guys banged up, etc. Cubs losing two in a row and 4 of 6 helps take the sting out a bit. 

Would be a big day for May to go 7 and the offense to let Hall finish it. Going up at least six heading back home would really be nice prior to the Cubs series.

They are getting some amazing starting pitching since the deadline. But their bullpen has been balls and their offense can be hit or miss.

No excuse for Hamilton to be playing tonight.  If we want to talk about accountability, Murphy should come down  on Bunty who has been awful lately.
