You didn't answer my question.  Would you trust him to start in the playoffs right now?

His FB speed is down, his arm angle dropped... he hasn't been the same since he got injured.  This is something more than a "cold" stretch.  There is something very different about how he was pitching and what is going on now...

Yes because I would still trust him more than Drohan or Gasser. I would give him a few weeks rest and let him pitch once in awhile out of the pen but rest could maybe help him. He’s at the top end of most innings he’s ever pitched so fatigue might be a bit of an issue right now

Probably, better question is whether he gets start.

Even better question: Frelick is arbitration eligible, does he get tendered a contract for 2027?

I think Murphy likes Sal too much to keep him off the playoff roster.

Murphy likes the scrappy players. Players like Frelick, Hamilton who can run, drop down a bunt etc

Murph shouldn't be keeping guys on the playoff roster out of favoritism.

Yes. Because 1st year arbitration contracts are incredibly cheap. He'll get like $2 million given his year this year.

definitely. the prospect value for him is still worth something to the team. former first rounder who was in the running for a batting title and excellent fielder. Slowed by injury. He has value they will squeeze something out of, whether by trade or as the 4th next year, then flip when Adamczweski or Payne are ready.

If this were a playoff game, I'd agree.  In the position we are in, I'm ok with rotating people around and making sure everyone gets starts.  If Sal keeps playing like this, he will probably play himself off the team.  But if he gets back to 700+OPS Sal, he is helpful

Well, he’s at .620, so I don’t see that happening this season.

Lara is already basically a .700 guy with better not-hitting skills than Frelick which was mostly my original point.

I'd agree with you long-term, but if the playoffs start today, I'd have Gasser as my fourth.  If inning fatigue is the issue, that probably won't get better this year.

At this point I certainly wouldn't and I've been a big Sal fan but time to turn the page.

Right they are. But is what he brings to the table worth $2M? They could get Greg Jones to put up a .620 OPS for less than $1M

With another scoreless inning of work, how about some love for DL Hall.  He's been really good.

As much as Drohan and Harrison are trending down, Hall has been superb and could be important in the playoffs.

I didn't mean 700 OPS on the season, but back to that 700+ OPS guy he has been (that he isn't right now).

They will.....and I have it on good authority that Hamilton is a very good player.

but it's not like every guy suddenly forgot every piece of advice he gave

Funny how Ortiz and Hall (Burnes trade) started off hot and then had a couple of years of poor play...but are back to being key contributors.

Harrison and Drohan (Durbin trade)  started off hot and... not doing well right now....

Harrison is poop on a stick now?

Lately, very much so.

You think he has been anything other than that?

My preference is to talk about the game in the IGTs.
