Rewatching the last 3 by Ashby.

1. Thank you for giving us a free out on the bunt in the 7th. I get the thinking, but after seeing Pages tee it up, I would not have been so quick there.
2. It's WILD that they pitched to Ohtani. It makes sense given how things have been going for him, but at any other point in his career? You're absolutely putting him on and setting up the DP with Betts.
3. Even rewatching now, I still am expecting that Tucker gets Smith in.
4. HOW DOES MURPHY NOT BRING IN MEGILL? Look, I'm a guy that literally texted my dad "maybe you stick with Peralta here?" before they brought in Williams vs the Mets but my goodness I was fully expecting that to backfire.
5. Both those defensive plays in the 9th were far more difficult that they made them look. In a parallel universe both those get down and lead to a comeback. For as effective as he was, there were balls that were absolutely SMOKED by the Dodgers those last 3 innings.

Yount makes the final out on a liner in 1982. Jackson Chourio makes the final out on a liner in 2026. From one "kid" to another. We are living in a simulation folks.

Playing Cleveland would really add to the simulation theory. The Uecker storyline writes itself. Are we going to win the World Series on a walkoff bunt?

Not sure about the rest of you but I think I could accidentally cut my finger off with a saw today and I'd still be smiling.

For sure.... The defense the last two innings was awesome.

Most likely because they figured they were going to lose and may as well let him eat a couple innings. No need to pile on May any further though.

Yeah it seemed like Murph planned on just getting some bulk innings out of May regardless of the results.  When May held them in check for a couple of innings and they started to chip away.  Murph went all in

I felt like Ashby was "on".  Yeah, Megill has been mostly lights-out since about May, but you never know when you bring in a reliever and he just doesn't have it that day, for whatever reason.  We saw it with Uribe and even Megill walked the tying run into scoring position his last time out.  I think he was one batter away from going to Megill the entire time but just never needed to.

Hot take: I thought Davis was fine. The only really bad call was Chourio's leadoff homer, but that was more the fault of the entire broadcast team because they weren't ready, and the sun made it tough to see how far that ball was going.

I'm not usually a "screw the national media" guy, but hoo boy, the Brewers are really getting no respect when it comes to air time today. I recorded Get Up, First Take, and the Dan Patrick Show, and Thursday Night Football is getting more discussion than the Brewers. And most of the talk about the game is about the Dodgers and impending labor issues.

Same, I didn't have any major beef. Honestly, if I didn't already know Davis was the Dodgers pbp guy I wouldn't have known from the broadcast.   Generally speaking, Smoltz gets a little old as all he does is say what he would pitch he'd throw. TBF, its what he knows and he has to fill air but it gets old.  I'd really prefer dumb dumb having fun the Rock mold than trying to act like a baseball genius.  But like you I'm not a huge hater on it at all.

That said, your post reminded me of the CHourio HR.  Smoltz right after said a "a leadoff HR isn't the worst thing that could happen".  It quite literally is the worst thing that could happen on the first pitch, other than say blowing out your elbow.    I get that he was trying to make the point that it'll wake you up to focus in real quick, but the phrasing was terrible

Are newspapers still printed in Milwaukee and would anyone be willing to mail me one?  🤣

I'm with you. I am totally one of those people who says, the closer closes. Murph must have seen that Ashby was really on his game and could get it done.

I think it came down to Aaron Ashby completely locked in and unfazed. The pressure wasn’t effecting him all. Who knows how Megill would be entering to clinch the pennant.

Also, it is easy to send Ashby out there and quickly go Megill if needed. If you send out Megill, it is all or nothing. By the time someone else would enter, it is over.

I think it is different had Bunty not hit that homer.

Yep, if Ashby got in any trouble Megill was ready.  If you go to Megill and he gets in trouble there’s nobody left behind him.  I was shocked Ashby pitched to right handers in the 9th but I can see the thought process I guess.

Getting that run in the ninth was huge. If anybody got on then Ohtani was going to bat and Ashby against Ohtani is better than Megill.

As to #4, I think Murphy really, really wanted either Muncy facing a LHP or Roberts pulling him back. Ashby provided that. And if anyone reached, he really wanted Ashby facing Ohtani.

Ashby having an ERA of zero in the postseason & knowing the whole BP will be on ice for a week might have a little bit to do with it, too😉.

It was actually one hopper that was hit on the line to Yount.  He threw to Cooper to record the last out.  But yeah, it was cool regardless.  We got to win that trophy.

Yep, Rod Carew at the plate w/the potential tying run at 2nd. I always thought Dwayne Mosley painted the wrong picture for the listeners as he made it sound like it was lined straight into Younts' glove. But he then announced the throw to first, so no harm. Pete Ladd got some big outs in that ALCS.

A friend just sent me this and said he confirmed it... I'm posting this with caution that I have not confirmed it myself. But if true, wild.

2025 Dodgers offense vs Milwaukee in NLCS

4 W - 0 L, 149 PA, 128 AB, 32 H, .250 AVG, .347 OBP

2026 Brewers offense vs Los Angeles in NLCS
4 W - 0 L, 149 PA, 128 AB, 32 H, .250 AVG, .347 OBP

Yep I think this was exactly the thinking ……as soon as it became a 2 run game they didn’t want to take the chance of one guy getting on and Ohtani being the tying run against a righty…..even one as good as Megill.

With the focused, determined way the Brewers were playing, for a good while this season I believed the Brewers could get to the World Series.

What I never would have believed was that the Brewers would be the team in the World Series with the higher payroll.

So you are saying if we win then we can still claim the larger payrolls always win?

YES!

I am not sure but was Megill getting up a decoy? I never saw him actually throw.
