No one said needlessly complete 7 IP. Snell earned the opportunity to sniff the 7 inning, Miz hasn’t pitched once worthy of such.

Neither was Mr. Snell. Clearly gassed in the middle of Bauers AB and left in long enough to lose the game for LA. Solely because Roberts knew he had to ride him as long as he possibly could. If he were giving the ball to Ashby or Uribe, Snell is removed from the game probably prior to Bauers even batting.

Absolutely no reason for the Brewers to be stretching their starters in these playoffs. Once they get through half the game, you are needlessly playing with fire unless they are going absolutely lights out.

After 20 useful playbacks of Pratt’s foot on/off base, I have seen the light.

His foot was on and then yes it then was off…..

HOWEVER, the front cleat hit back on with ball in glove. You can literally see bag move on top corner! Shoe comes off, yes. But then front  cleat hit back on. You SEE the bag’s top cloth being stretched!
Check it out!

Replay had it wrong.

Call it a wild take, but expecting one of the best pitchers in recent memory to log a quality start more than 1/3 times doesn’t seem like a crazy expectation. He just hasn’t pitched well enough to warrant it. Thankfully we haven’t had to care much because our middle relief is unstoppable and hopefully that continues for the next week when Ashby is crowned World Series MVP.

But it is lacking context. Miz has qualified for a quality start one time since Sept 1 and that was the Cubs series when we more or less ended the division race. He has thrown OVER 5 innings one time since that series. He has thrown over 700 more pitches this year than he did last year. He and the Brewers are just trying to get home at this point.

You are wanting the Miz from June and that isn't him anymore. That guy will be back in April of '27.

If we are offered 5 innings of 1 run baseball (against the 2nd best team in baseball) in Game 5 in a few days we should all be taking it and sprinting away with it. Miz won't say he is tired but Murphy has said it numerous times.

Expecting him to perform like a prime post season Randy Johnson or Pedro and Schilling or whomever is a really high ask of a 24 year old running on fumes in his first full MLB season.

I'll let him do that - you kind of have to see it in motion to see the barely perceptible scrape of the bottom of the cleat after his foot had been in the air when he caught it. It was not obvious at all, and if they had called him safe on the field, they wouldn't have overturned it - but... you're supposed to let the call stand if it isn't an obvious error. That, plus the blown check swing call could have been very costly. Glad it worked out.

Yes. Miz has thrown exactly 200 innings now this season. That is a decent workload for a seasoned veteran starter, much less a  24 year old who has never experienced this kind of demand.

He will probably be around 205 to finish the season. He has absolutely shattered his previous high for a season by more than 60 innings. This would be considered egregiously irresponsible management of his arm if we literally didn’t have any other choice if we want to win a World Series.

So yes, of course he doesn’t look like his midseason self. I’m actually kind of in awe that his fastball still has the life that it has. He is absolutely giving us everything he has left in the tank.

If we weren’t a playoff team, we would have shut Miz down in mid-September.

Misio had 174.2 IP in the regular season and 13.1 IP so far in the postseason, that is only 188 IP.

Last year Misio threw 63.1 IP in AAA, 66 IP in MLB, and another 12 IP in the postseason for a total of 141.1 IP.

One more five inning start would put him at about 52 more IP than last year.

.. and not just Miz. Henderson and Drohan. Given his finish probably Harrison. Given his injury come back maybe even Gasser.

Nearly the entire starting pitching staff. The story of the 2026 Brewers is asinine.

Average age of Brewers pitchers this year per BRef was 27.0, youngest in MLB.

Average age of Rays pitchers this year per BRef was 30.8, 2nd oldest in MLB behind only the Cubs at 31.6.

I'm assuming veteran starting pitching has been a key component of most World Series winners. Maybe an impossible question to find the answer to - but I wonder how often the youngest starting pitching staff in baseball makes the playoffs and then to what degree it has success.

Yeah, I mistakenly double counted his last two September starts as both regular season and postseason innings.

My point though, even if it’s *oniy* an increase of 50+ and not 60 or 70+, is that increasing a young starters’ innings by 50 is not something you would want to do as a matter of normal procedure.

Looks like the 2025 Guardians had the youngest staff (again per BRef) went 88 W - 74 L and lost in the WC round.

Some other recent youngest staffs to make the postseason have been 2022 Guardians (92 W - 70 L, lost in the DS), 2012 Nationals (98 W - 64 L, lost in the DS), and then I stopped checking in 2004 because that year the Montreal Expos had the youngest pitchers in the league and they aren't a team in that incarnation anymore.

Here are some of the recent WS teams with the average age of their pitchers (spoiler alert, veteran pitching has been key to most recent WS teams and the Brewers are again occupying outlier territory)...

2025
LAD (29.6 | 19th) vs TOR (31.1 | 29th)
2024
LAD (29.7 | 24th) vs NYY (30.1 | 25th)
2023
ARI (28.5 | 13th) vs TEX (30.4 | 27th)
2022
PHI (29.2 | 18th) vs HOU (29.4 | 21st)
2021
HOU (28.7 | 14th) vs ATL (29.5 | 23rd)
2019
HOU (29.9 | 26th) vs WAS (30.8 | 28th)
2018
BOS (28.9 | 20th) vs LAD (29.2 | 23rd)
2017
HOU (28.5 | 16th) vs LAD (29.7 | 27th)
2016
CLE (28.1 | 14th) vs CHC (29.9 | 29th)
2015
NYM (28.2 | 13th) vs KCR (30.0 | 29th)
2014
KCR (28.9 | 21st) vs SFG (31.7 | 30th)
2013
STL (26.9 | 2nd) vs BOS (30.2 | 28th)

...have to go all the way back to the 2013 Cardinals to get to a World Series pitching staff that is (barely) younger than ours this year.

Right, but at the same time the Brewers have also been about as responsible and cautious as possible given the circumstances at hand.

He only threw on four days rest four times all season. eight times he got six days rest, they gave him a dozen days off around the All Star break. He had lengthy layoffs before each of his playoff starts.

Misio shaving almost five percent off his walk rate also helped him be more efficient at 15.15 pitches per IP during the 2026 regular season compared to 16.75 pitches per IP between AAA and the MLB regular season last year.

I’m not disagreeing with pulling him.

Just sharing disappointment his performance hasn’t been worthy of more innings. Understandable, I think. Thankfully, it hasn’t costed us, but it’s asking a lot of a bullpen when no other starter is likely to go deep into a game. Is what it is, you know. We shall see how it plays out with our bullpen come Game 4/5.

The cynical side of me can't help but think that if it was Derek Jeter instead of Pratt, there would've been a forensic examination & the base would've been sent to the lab to try to detect cleat residue.

But you can easily see why it was overturned. The check swing call---THAT is what really could've/should've had folks up in arms.

felt like the Brewers were very, very lucky to win that game: Yelich triple nearly caught, Contreras smoked one right at Walls and it squeaked past, Bauers bloop to left was just barely on the line, Megill narrowly escaped the 9th.

Bats need to be much, much better going forward, Tampa is just as gritty as us and they feel due for some baseball luck

I don't think that's luck.

contreras'  hit was a rocket, and the bauers hit didn't lead to any runs.

The 1969 Mets won the WS with 4 starters in their early-to-mid twenties. But admittedly apples & oranges; that's from a era when pitchers were worked like pack mules.
