It's an old people joke so I love it.  It also reminds me of my elementary school.  We had an asphalt area with a couple basketball hoops and a couple of four square spots but we all loved the area where they painted yellow bases so we would have a baseball/kickball "field" despite having two actual baseball fields at our school as well.  We thought having bases was the coolest and there wouldn't be any arguments of "you're out, that's not actually the base,"

The best was after it rained, you could "slide".

"Dustin Pedroia doesn't have the strength or bat speed to hit major-league pitching consistently, and he has no power......He probably has a future as a backup infielder if he can stop rolling over to third base and shortstop." Keith Law, 2006

God I love the Dodgers subreddit. Every other post is a salt mine about how bad the TV ratings will be and how much better they are for baseball as if literally any Brewers fan cares one lick. What a pathetic angle to take after getting your teeth kicked in.

It's all they have left.

As soon as Caminero looked like he was going to second, I started yelling that Yelich was going to be safe. I completely assumed he'd throw to first.

That was a huge mistake by them.  All the carnage occurred after that.  🙂

Gary’s PH walk in the Padre series. Yeli’s hustle. Those are such huge circle-them-in-the-score-book moments of this postseason. I hope they get remembered forever.

If we sweep the Rays tonite this team will go down in the annals as one of the best teams in league history and I'm not exaggerating.

They have a new plot this year!

Small-town girl makes it big as an on-the-field reporter. Then interviews the MVP of the WS champions and falls in love.  Has a fight in the offseason as he goes back to Venezuela, but bumps into him in spring training.  He proposes at the All Star game and they are married in the 7th inning stretch of game 4 of their second WS sweep.

Who is Ashby fighting, and why is he going back to Venezuela?

I keep thinking back to last year, how the Brewers looked against the Dodgers, completely outmatched and with all the fight run out of them. I'm seeing that in the Rays. The Brewers are just smothering them right now. It sure is nice to be on this side of it.

After sleeping on it I think it was a mistake by Cash to have Freddy start last night.  The pressure he was under probably was too much.  The game was do or die for the Rays.  But on top of that he had to face his former team who developed him and had many good friends on the team he had to face.  I truly felt bad for him.

Truly mind boggling stuff.

11 W - 1 L with the first ever eight game LCS/WS sweep would give them a claim to the best postseason run of all time. 1976 Reds (7 W - 0 L) are the only team to undefeated in the LCS/WS Era (since 1969). 1999 Yankees and 2005 White Sox are the only other teams to go 11 W - 1 L.

World Series Winners with at least 114 Total Wins have been 1998 Yankees (125), 2018 Red Sox (119), 2022 Astros (117), 1986 Mets (116), 1970 Orioles (115), 1975 Reds (115), 1909 Pirates (114), 1927 Yankees (114), 2009 Yankees (114), and 2016 Cubs (114).

Honestly, the lineup and starting pitcher choices by Cash has at least been defensible - theoretically, they made sense strategically. However, none of that matters if the players don’t execute - everyone has a battle plan until they get punched in the mouth. Different decisions would not have yielded different outcomes.

And I believe a nine-game winning streak would be the record for most consecutive wins in a single post-season. They’re already tied for the lead with eight.

(Apologies if this was discussed earlier. I’ve found it hard to sleep for the last week—for some reason!—and I’m admittedly a little hazy on the memory).

Huh? who was he supposed to start? Freddy just won ALCS MVP and has been dominant lately. Raz fell apart. Martinez was used already. Peralta did just fine and should have gotten out of the 5th, if not the fielding mistake. He has been arguably their best pitcher against the Brewers this series.

I’m going to violate a personal rule about looking too far ahead, but I wonder what they are planning for a parade and celebration. Obviously to pull something like that off they have to have a plan way in advance. It’s kind of the opposite of a disaster recovery plan.

I went to the Bucks parade in 2021 and I’m expecting something like that. My knees and hips are too old to stand in one place, but assuming there is a parade through downtown I will go down there and walk around to soak in the atmosphere. I would expect this to be much bigger because the Brewers fan base is so much bigger.

I've heard through the grapevine that the MPS Superintendent is planning on cancelling school for the sure-to-be parade.

Not my comment, but I think the point would have been to start Rasmussen G1, and Peralta G2.

Sveum et al, at some point, a compilation post for the season, the playoffs, the Series would be amazing. All the records in one post/place to enjoy a read through.

Honestly though, Nick Martinez had the best start of the three. He went 5 innings and allowed 2 ER. That's a solid start and it ended up being a 3-2, one run loss.

Hard to argue he shouldn't have pitched game 1, in hindsight. I thought the Rays had a good reason to hold Ras and Freddy back to give them extra rest. It just didn't work out.

Agreed - I mean, hindsight is 20/20, and if you're a Rays fan, you'll wonder if eschewing that extra rest day for their aces would have made a difference, but it was a reasonable choice.

There might be something to that, yeah. I remember thinking after game 1 that the Brewers had shed any rust their 7 day layoff may have built up. Who's to say Rasmussen pitching in game 1 wouldn't have had more success than against a rustless Brewers lineup in game 2?

You are probably right but I still felt for him.  He was always one of my favorite Brewers.

My original post was more about the situation for Freddy.  His team was in a do or die against his former team.  IMO it was an unenvitable position.

You guys. I just woke up and I'm not sure if I'm dreaming. Rereading the IGT, it seems like I'm not. I've been pinching myself and it hurts, so I think I'm awake. Are we actually coming off of a 10-1 win, an 8 run 5th, all with 2 outs and one win away from winning the Brewers first ever World Series? Is this real life?

No. It's 18 months ago & we're still trying to decide between Vinny Capra & Oliver Dunn.

Yah, really isn’t a path for anyone else at this point. They only need one more win, so unless they blow the next three games for someone to be G7 hero, no one is overtaking Contreras. Maybe Chourio if he balled out for 3+ hits with a HR+…and Contreras lays an egg the rest of the way.

Disagree. Chourio definitely has a path. Odds are basically even right now, with maybe a slight edge to Contreras.

All it would really take is another multihit night, maybe with a HR, and an Ofer or 1/5 from Contreras. Contreras has been huge with the caught stealings and challenges, but Chourio himself has had some of the most impactful defensive plays in this series and leads in steals.
