Spring training only about 18 weeks away!

I'm worried it could be closer to 18 months.

Maybe so, but watching your team win it all is still always special.

On the bright side, I do think it makes 99% of Brewers baseball more enjoyable or at least less stressful. When you start making the postseason year after year and come up short you start to worry if the prime ‘can’t miss’ opportunity is slipping away. I mean, Wisconsin fans would know more than anyone after watching the Packers blow Rodgers entire career. What if the Bears had squeaked out that W in 2010? We may look as good as ever, but there is no guarantee we ever get another crack at the WS again.

I may never have this high again, but I also know I will never feel the pain and dread the Alonso HR and Dodgers sweep etc. gave again either.

I found this funny.  The Padres didn't even invite the last two World Series winning managers to interview for their open management position back in 2016.  Also in 2015 both Roberts and Murphy held the position of manager for the Padres.

Trying not to jinx it, but is it safe to say Pat Murohy will be a 3-time NL Manager of the Year?   I really do believe Counsell benefitted from having Murphy in that dugout during his tenure.

As a naturally neurotic individual, this is one of the things I feel most happy about. It's freeing for me (fully recognizing it won't be for everyone). Nothing will mean as much BECAUSE this is so so good. This is the peak, and it's not that I won't get to come back here. It's that I won't have to. It'll always be there to remember.

It feels kind of like getting into my 40s and realizing (slowly) that you don't have to chase things the way you thought. You can appreciate them for what they are and take some pressure off yourself.

I am not sad exactly but certainly aware that this team can't be re-created exactly. It's fleeting. I will sure miss these guys all together after tomorrow. But it being temporary is maybe part of why it's so special. Yin and yang. Bitter and sweet reinforce each other, and that's why this is the best thing in sports!

because he's a good hitter...... who would you have wanted to take his spot?

Exactly. There are 26 roster spots. I would imagine every playoff team has 1 or 2 guys who contributed little to nothing. I would've strongly considered going 14 position players/12 pitchers for the series with SD, but neither Lockridge nor Naylor were necessary on a roster that doesn't need to PR or PH much.

Murphy locked into Yelich all post-season, and Frelick once the WS started. Both decisions turned out to be correct.

Robert Gasser's performance getting lost here boys.

Give the Gas his due.

Gm3 starts in LA and TB on the road in a new hostile environment. It can't be overstated what he meant to this run.

And just to add on, you could talk about massive moments from Hamilton all playoffs, massive moments from Frelick and Mitchell, massive moments from Bauers and Yelich. Luis Lara had an RBI hit!

Contributions all across the roster, mirroring how they won all year.

The double-digit ABs from Bauers were nothing short of spectacular. And then there were the massive moments that to some might not seem so massive.

Yelich gets the big secondary lead off 1st base & beats the throw to 2nd from Caminero. An otherwise scoreless inning becomes an 8-runner.

Sanchez comes off the bench & draws a walk from Mason Miller. If he doesn't reach, Chourio never gets to the plate & the game 3 loss in SD leaves the team down 2-1 & facing elimination on the road.

I don't see how any other result is possible (even with postseason not counting in voting).

nah. leave ashby in his current role. He's dominant in it. COmmand would be an issue in the rotation.

Plush summed it up great awhile ago. Even with Murphy fatigue nobody in their right mind could not give it to him, basically. And spot on take.

That is awfully generous, we'll be lucky to have baseball on Memorial Day 2027.

Apparently, the owners are prepared to "burn this to the ground" to get what they want.

Agreed, this is gonna be a very interesting lockout.

Owners want the cap but the players dont, so something has to give.

I'm the exact opposite. I'm freed knowing I have experienced the one thing in sports fandom I have wanted above all else. Nothing will ever top this. The part of me that enjoyed everything about sports but felt incomplete because I've never gotten to the top of the mountain is gone.

Was I (and am I still) disgusted by the Packers loss in the playoffs last year. You betcha. But I didn't have those gnawing thoughts of "I'm never gonna see this am I? They are always going to break my heart, aren't they? Do they have a Super Lab where they manufacture new and convoluted ways to crush my soul specifically?"

And maybe it's nuts, but literally until the ground out to end game 5, those thoughts remained lodged in the darkest places of my psyche. But after, like a fog has lifted.

Doesn't mean I won't be as passionate about any of it. Doesn't mean I won't want to see more titles and be bitterly disappointed if they don't. Doesn't mean I won't assume the worst mid game and be over the top dumb as my coping mechanism.

But that existential dread I will never experience the best there ever will be? Gone

And it's the [expletive deleted] best.

I'm sure I'm late to the party on this observation, but something seems fitting about a city with area code 414 winning the series 4-1 with the final game's score being 4-1.

The owners are right to take that position, too IMO.  The financial playing field needs to be leveled like all the other major sports have done

Agreed, but very surprising to read about a $13 billion dollar industry.

Burning that down is certainly a choice.

The owners aren't taking that position to level the playing field. The owners are taking that position because they want costs to be much more fixed and planned to help boost franchise valuations.

There's never going to be a salary cap because the owners and players will never agree to what constitutes baseball revenue especially so with the popularity of mixed-use developments around stadiums likely to continue growing.

What constitutes baseball revenues is actually pretty simple - ticket sales and gameday parking/concessions, broadcast revenue, and merchandise sales.  Anything real-estate/entertainment district/offseason event revenue - related shouldn't be considered "part of the pie" for players.  Having a leaguewide sharing of broadcast revenues (local and national), while allowing individual markets to keep and use their own revenues generated from all the rest as they see fit for player/staff compensation and covering other yearly expenditures, is what the new CBA needs.  Nothing more, nothing less.  If that is set up and no salary cap remains, I'm all for that.  But that will never happen because the players union thinks their players are also entitled to a bunch of the revenue pie that isn't associated at all with baseball activities and doesn't want to consider many of the operating costs owners/organizations have to deal with as a debit to team balance sheets.  At some point, both sides need to be realistic with each other and find common ground - I just think they're going to lose at least a healthy chunk of next season to finally do so, which sucks.

Capping what teams like the Dodgers can spend will do NOTHING except make the billionaire owners more wealthy.  Teams like them and the Yankees, Mets, etc. aren't the problem with baseball, its the teams like the Pirates, Rockies, Orioles, etc.  Cheap owners aren't going to start spending money because the Dodgers can't sign Skubal.
