Cubs vs. Cards in 8 of the first 11 games after the break. They split those 8 and Cubs pitching staff resumes their mediocre efforts, we might be in business come August.

If the Cubs starters start pitching to their FIPs or have another injury they're in trouble. Who are they going to call up, Jen-Ho Tseng? Alec Mills? Duane Underpants Jr.? Luke Farrell?

 

They have no prospects to trade, so if they have another starter go down they will have to take on a bad contract to get a halfway decent pitcher.

 

Cubs play 11 in a row on the road at the end of August/beginning of September spanning four cities - ATL, PHI, MIL, WAS. And MIL doesn't give them an afternoon game in the last game of that series - 7:10PM start, then have to fly to WAS . (Karma is a you-know-what.) Their schedule ain't no cakewalk the rest of the way either.

The 2008 Brewers has one 6-game losing streak and three 5-game losing streaks. They can bounce back.

The team has played more games than anyone else and just got done with 21 games in 20 days. They managed to win as many games as the Cubs did after that tough stretch. Now they get some rest, mental as much as physical, and get to watch as all the other teams have to play more games in the dogs days of August.
