My guess, Perez gets a start over Arcia or Schoop.

Arcia actually has solid career numbers against Montgomery, Perez does not. I also found that Shaw has very good career numbers against Montgomery, so maybe he starts over Moose at 3b or Schoop at 2b?

Cubs are probably hoping for a solid start from Montgomery, but he hasn't gone 5IP + since early August and really can't be expected to go much past 6 even at his best. He had a short DL stint and his last start lasted 66 pitches in ATL. Would be a great game to get him out early and then make their bullpen work overtime. They griped alot about balls and strikes yesterday, but some of their key relievers just didn't have it when they needed them - keep making Maddon have to make pitching changes.

This is the end result of using all your relievers every day for basically the entire month...it was amazing how often I'd tune into a cubs game this past month and they'd be on their 4th reliever in a given inning. I love all the praise he gets for it too, as if more moves automatically makes you a genius manager.

Win this game and things get very interesting. have another 50/50 game tomorrow to potentially get to 2 games. CHC plays WAS next and gets Stras and Scherzer in two of them. Brewers get SF, but Bumgarner in one. Then heads up again right away next week. Lose this and go back to 5 games and it just feels different.

The only real panic button for me would have been a Cubs sweep. We've won one, so the worst we could be is a game down on what we were Sunday (granted with 3 fewer games to make the deficit up). A sweep for the Cubs and I'd have been fearful of the chasing pack much more.

Yes we've seen other teams (Cardinals, Philles) get in trouble by losing a few games in a row. Don't want to fall back to the pack of WC2 contenders.

Official lineup:

Cain CF

Yelich RF

Aguilar 1B

Braun LF

Perez 2B

Shaw 3B

Kratz C

Arcia SS

Miley P

It's a little disappointing that Schoop, who was acquired in part for his prowess hitting lefties, is not in the lineup.

I've actually found it a bit strange that everyone assumes this. Schoop has been a reverse splits guy every year of his career except 2017. Much better against RHP than LHP.

From what I remember we can never hit Montgomery so hoping for a different result especially since I’ll be at the game

We make 200 trades, and Hernan Perez is still our #5 hitter.

I don’t get why it matters about trades? Perez has been as hot as they come and he’s killing left handed pitching. Why wouldn’t we want that in our lineup?

"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

because we HAVE to justify all the future allstars we traded away

The brewers have gotten to Montgomery in a few games over the past few seasons, seems like it's feast or famine though.

Cards up 4 - 0 already. @#$%!

The Cards are going to take one of the WC spots, it's a given. They are in a zone. We need to take care of our business and grab the other.

It's up to us, and no one else.

They are 5 - 5 in their last ten. They might be cooling down a bit.

I'd even go as far as to say they might just possibly win the Central .
