I just don't understand this rule at all, they never call it so why have the rule. That is exactly the play they are trying to stop here and when the catcher messes it up they never call it.

CC tossed after the most effete hook I’ve ever seen from an ump. If you’re going to do it, then mean it, blue. Give the people a show.

It sucks, but seriously, what can the catcher do there. Step away from the plate and reach for the tag?

No way this gets overturned...What can the catcher do differently?

Per the rules, he is not allowed to do what he did. Yes, the rules are wrong-but they are the rules and that should've been a run.

Not go into the basepath to catch the ball. If the ball pushes you into blocking the plate it is your fault, not the runners. There is no reason to have this rule in place if that isn't called obstruction, it makes no sense.

He stepped into the lane before getting the ball. Pretty simple.

The throw didn’t cause him into the lane. He casually stepped there to block him before getting the ball. That is the rule.

I don’t like the rule, but he could have stepped forward or backward one step and there would have been a lane.

And that's kinda why the rule is stupid. Doesn't really do anything.
Remember what Yoda said:

Yea, I don’t think he completely blocked the plate until that last step right as he caught the ball.

Ok, you cannot commit obstruction if you have the ball, and catcher had the ball before Cain got there, even if only by a millisecond, so what is the complaint there?

You have to ride your horse here but I am not crazy about Hader out there. We can't have a long ball here. Just can't.

Is there someone you trust more to not give one up?

but it's not like every guy suddenly forgot every piece of advice he gave
