For those who prefer to avoid twitter.com:

Andy Haines was informed the club will not renew his contract for 2022, the Brewers announced. Assistant hitting coach Jacob Cruz has been advised he's free to pursue other opportunities as the team conducts its search for Haines' replacement.

Here's the thing...I've never been a Haines fan by any stretch...however, firing the cook when the real problem are the ingredients, is short sighted. You can't expect a gourmet cook to make a masterpiece with crap ingredients. It's an impossible task. Upgrade the ingredients and watch the masterpiece unfold, regardless of who the cook is.

There must have been a lot of crappy ingredients when he was fired from the Cubs, I guess.

Not surprising, think a move had to be made, but not sure what impact a new coach will actually have.

If it were me, interviewing potential candidates would consist almost solely of film review on Yelich and Hiura. Priority 1A for whoever comes in will have to be getting those two right.

Just a new take on things, different way to see things should help...

It was a move that had to be done.

This makes me happy.

David Stearns characterized the decision to part with Andy Haines as a difficult one. He declined to go into the specifics beyond runs scored/batting average/etc. of why now was the right time. "We thought a new voice, a little different framing of message, might be beneficial."

Fingers crossed the Brewers don't pull a Packers and somehow hire a worse hitting coach than the guy they just fired.

off topic, but after a disasterous week 1, Packers D has been pretty good despite being depleted.

For those on here who relentlessly insisted there wasn’t an issue with Haines, there you go.

It had to be done. I don’t wish anyone ill will with a job, but it’s the nature of sports, and there will always be another gig for him.

This is excellent. Thanks.

I do wonder how much being adjacent to Silicon Valley helps with access, but I'd imagine the Brewers would have plenty of it if they decided to buy in.

As to Haines, it was time. As others have said, I don't know how much it matters, but this is one time where I buy the "new voice" theory.

I mean I was thinking about this awhile ago already...the Brewers have this state of the art Pitching lab, you would think they make something similar for hitting too, wouldn't you?? And if so, why would they not have one??

Great news. I have a feeling or hope the search is more extensive this time around. 2 bad hitting coaches in a row to learn to stay away from. It was clearly the number 1 move you had to do to the staff. 2 years. Multiple players in each year having their career worst seasons. Looking forward to a big hire.

Who are some names you would consider as a "big hire"? Asking out of curiosity...not very familiar with what the potential candidate pool even looks like

What happened to Yelich and Hiura was tipping the pop machine. Each case seems almost unheard of this side of Bellinger. The team’s late offensive collapse this year, along with the memory of 2020’s offense, knocked it over. I hope Haines can retain some sort of position in the organization, if wanted, and can still learn/change in a different role.
