Here's my main issue with Culver's.  It tastes great, better than most fast food, but I'm still hungry when I'm done eating.  Also, it's usually $25-30 for our family of 4 to go to Culver's, and for that much, I can order good pizza or Chinese food and have leftovers for a few days.

$25 for 4 people? You must be getting 4 kids meals, no wonder you are still hungry.

Generally it's 2 kids meals, my wife and I each get a butterburger, and we get any combination of two fries, onion rings, or curds.  I will occasionally splurge for one of their limited time burgers or a rueben.

Last week I set a new personal best 31 spam calls in a day.

I set the default ring to silent and gave all my contacts a ringtone, so at least I don't really even know when they call.

I used to work at Culvers in high school...the biggest selling point is the huge menu and the ability to customize. All of the employees and many regular customers had their own custom menu items. You can add anything to a grilled cheese, for instance, and they have a number of types of bread and cheese to choose from and a good selection of high quality sauces. I don't know if it's still the case, but we could do most of the 'limited time' stuff on request even if it wasn't on the menu at the time. I usually ate various forms of a turkey melt, I can't even remember what the deli turkey was actually for haha.

The cheese curds were good 20 years ago (has it really been 20 years since I worked there...ugggh), but are pretty mediocre by today's standards. Maybe it was just my pickiness but I also thought there were not many procedures in place to ensure consistency, so it wasn't uncommon for us to serve overcooked burgers.

These days when I go back to Milwaukee I go straight from the airport to Kopps on 76th and Layton.

Don't take them to Five Guys... it'll be at least $60 for a family of four, and that's with the single-patty smaller burger and small fries.

$25-30 isn't feeding a family of four with Chinese where I live.  One large dinner portion is $17 at the two Chinese places that are within four blocks of my place.

I can spend between $15-$20 at Culver's pretty easy getting a double cheeseburger basket, upgrade to cheese curds and large drink plus a corn dog. $25-$30 for 4 people is downright cheap. Heck, two Big Mac meals and two Happy Meals at McDonald's is around $26. I'd pick Culver's over McDonald's most times for a couple bucks extra.

At midday Monday, when the Counsell news was maybe an hour old, a colleague from HR in our building stopped by my office with a 💩 eating grin, saying "I'm just here to give you 💩."  You will not be surprised to learn that this colleague favors chc.

I want the Brewers to move past this and succeed just to take the grin off that person's face.

Yes.  The original before Culvers.  Kopps on Silver Spring was my college hangout (MSOE).  But now when we come into town for a Brewer game, we hit Kopps on Layton all the time.  My kids absolutely love it.

But oddly, the one on Bluemound doesn't have as good of custard.  It is always half melted.

I'm six minutes away.  Too much of a good thing, I guess.

Their burgers are still good, but their buns have taken a bit of a nose dive.  The old buns held the grease much better than the new ones.  I think they changed around 3 years ago.  It was a big of a big deal around here.  We end up going to Oscar's at 27th and Rawson for burgers more often.

It isa win-win on the 1/2 gallon of Turtle Sundae / Badger Claw, though.  Both are very good.  👍

I go to Oakland Gyros on Layton.

We used to live about a mile from the 76 & Layton Kopps. Seemed to me to have the best rep of the three. My stepson can be added to the list of people who want to stop there immediately after landing at Mitchell. My wife & I had a couple great custard options growing up on the NW side-----the original Kopps on 60th & Appleton, and a little-known gem called Kitts on 71st & Capitol which opened in the early 50s & I believe is still there.

I'm sure this isn't a popular reason to hit Culvers, but I think their salads are very good.

In our diabetic household, this is another thing that makes Culver's popular.

Thanksgiving food takes. No one cares that you don't like green bean casserole.

Count me in the category of someone who doesn't like it.

Another take, I'm just learning that mac and cheese is supposed to be a "traditional" thanksgiving food. Not once in my life have I had it at thanksgiving nor have I ever heard that before. I would like it though.

I think Mac n Cheese at T Giving is a southern thing.

Green bean casserole was an invention of the Campbell Soup Company to sell more cream of _______ soup (I'm assuming mushroom).  I feel like at least half of the "traditional" holiday sides were invented by food companies to sell more product.

Parents nearly fell for the Amazon refund scam today. Had downloaded Anydesk and left for the bank before calling one of us. We had the bank freeze their credit for a while, they're getting a new computer and new SS numbers. I thought that was a little bit much but the brother got upset at me saying that, and especially since he dealt with it there was no reason for me to push it. And he's right that could help prevent identity theft. The brother told them about how they can use AI to spoof a grandkid's voice and I said how they can use html to fake bank balances.

Well that was a scare for the day.

Kinda like how "Breakfast is the most important meal of the day" was a line first uttered by Edward Bernays who had been hired to sell more bacon.

As I was watching some NFL football this weekend, I got annoyed when the cameras had to zoom in on players as they were getting carted off the field.  I remember one where the guy was in tears because he screwed up his ankle or knee.  Hey, let's zoom in closer and perhaps we could detect the salination levels of his tears or maybe figure out if he eats too much asparagus.

There have been times where you could hear the player on the ground yelling in agony.  I swear they would even turn of the modulation so you could hear the blood-curdling moans and screams.

My son blew out his shoulder playing football his freshman year of high school.  I was doing the announcing and you could hear his agony from where he was at on the logo.  Not something I wish on anybody.  I guess, at least, they don't show replays when a leg snaps or if CPR is required.

Must have learned their lesson after the Theismann play on MNF in '85, for those who remember it.  I was watching that one with my parents.  That was just terrible.  I remember Dad saying matter-of-factly "He'll never play again.  He'll be lucky to walk again."

I subscribe to the Wisconsin State Journal online edition.  In June, I paid $8/month.  That jumped to $18/month in July, and now will jump to $27/month in January.  I don't mind paying for news, but more than tripling the price in six months is ridiculous.  I have to call to cancel, can't do it online, so I hope to negotiate a reduced subscription fee.
