I don't see any talk anywhere here of Rodgers taking a pay cut with the Jets. My first thought was he wants them to trade for Bakh but reports this morning are maybe he was making room for Delvin Cook. It's probably more about his ego though, just wants to be like Brady and make it look like he has never been greedy. Cleans up his image a bit and maybe makes him more marketable. He also got a no tag clause so after 25 he can sign anywhere.

Back on topic camp is here!

It is incredibly obnoxious and infuriating in my opinion.

The talk about how GREAT it is to be around a FO like the Jets that treats him so great and the communication is there...fine, That's his new team.

All the "this is definitely more than a one year thing, they committed to me," also annoying given he's set the record for highest paid player in NFL history THRICE. But again, ok. New team.

But NOW after 18 years with the Green Bay Packers, he takes a 35 MILLION dollar pay cut while bleaing the Packers for every last cent? That's his right, good for the Jets...but had he been willing to do that in Green Bay, Davante Adams could have still been here(and they could have kept Douglas, Campbell, etc...).

It doesn't damper my outlook on this team and how I'm excited, but it does show me that sooo much of this was truly about his ego. The Jets are willing to cater to him and everything he wants and I don't think he loses a penny at the end of the day, but he'll certainly help the team.

Sure, we should focus on the Packers, but...this feels like a slap in the face. Which I suppose was the entire point. The famous "chip on his shoulder," it's now aimed at the Packers, winning another SB and proving that if only we had better management, he'd have won more. I am going to root for them to go 5-12 SOOO hard...so long as he gets ~715 snaps.

I think you're right, he said all the right things when he left us, but this is a chip on the shoulder passive aggressive move to stick it to the GM and Prez.

I bet NYJ are letting him pick guys too, giving him say on that stuff like he always wanted with us too. Even if he takes a 35 million pay cut, he probably figures he'll make up for it and more in NYC promo deals off the field. Smart move by him, but you're right man if he did this with us, we could of kept a couple more guys last year and maybe made a deeper run for sure.

Rodgers was angry with the Packers, it shouldn't surprise anybody that he didn't do the team any favors in contract negotiations after they drafted Love.

This is all pretty irrelevant at this point.

To be fair, he didn't do them any contract favors before they drafted love either.

They drafted his replacement instead of a player who would better fit any "go for it" strategy in Rodgers' last few years playing on a SB-contending team. Why should Rodgers be expected to sacrifice money in the present when the team wasn't willing to sacrifice wins in the future?

I think this is all just usual breakup stuff, where in the immediate the girl is the worst person in the world and you don't know why you liked her in the first place. But once you find the next girl, the previous one was actually a great person but it just didn't work out and you wish her the best. So I guess that's to say Love is my new girlfriend and I'll be rooting for the Jets this season unless they play the Packers.

He set a record for highest paid player in the NFL 3 times in his career.

No, he was never doing them any favors. And that last contract, the one that kicked in right when they drafted Love, that ended up being a MUCH larger deal than the original record setting contract as they ended up voiding the final year of it....so that's why we're swimming in a 40M dollar dead cap hit.

The Love part is really another sign of the pettiness IMO. If he's have just kept balling out, done anything financially to help the Packers, communicated with the FO directly rather than passive aggressively through his agent or then aggressive-aggressively during a ranting press conference and said he wanted to play "several more years," he'd still be the Packers QB, Adams would be here, maybe not Watson, but maybe Alec Pierce, whoever.

It's all worked out fine, but he acts like there was this grand plan and I think the Packers just took the guy they thought was the best player. It's happened before to great QBs like Elway, Young, whoever...and it'll happen again. I'm really just kinda over him at this point.

And I'll get over that in 4-5 years when he gets his jersey retired here.

People cannot seriously keep saying because of ONE pick, the Packers weren't sacrificing parts of the future to go all in and win a SB. The Packers spent about 90M more in players salaries last year than what the cap was. That's money that, one way or another, they'll have to account for in the future. Same the year before.

How about the massive off-season spending when Gutey took over(when they also tried to sign Robinson).

The absolutely sacrificed the future to help Rodgers win...and to be clear, Rodgers took his SECOND record setting deal before we drafted Love. So why would he sacrifice money to help his team win? Simple...because it looks good now. It makes him look like Brady. After being outrated when reports surfaced that he wanted to be the highest paid by a "significant margin," at 50M a year on a 4/200M deal...he signed a 3 year 158M deal, fully GTD. The Packers were doing as much as JUST about any other team to win now the last 2-3 years. The 2020 Love pick does not negate that.

I will be cheering for the Jets to play Rodgers >65% of the time and lose every game.  Not because I hate Rodgers, but because it helps the Packers.  I don't date QBs because I'm married to the Packers.

I would absolutely love for a reporter/someone to tell Rodgers during an interview in front of a camera that "by your standards, you sucked during the 2019 season and with what you had remaining on your contract it made perfect sense for the Packers to start planning for their future at quarterback during the 2020 draft.  Then, the team benefitted from any perceived slight by drafting Love by watching you win back to back MVP awards during 2020-2021 seasons and moved heaven and earth to restructure numerous veteran contracts to extend their window of contention while your contract remained an organizational albatross."  Just to see him try to deflect those facts in real time.

That restructure with the Jets was a formality more than anything and probably didn't need to take months of time to happen...and I think it actually handcuffs what the Jets can do in the near term because it forces them to carry larger cap hits further down the road.  With their schedule from Week 1 through Thanksgiving, I kind of expect things to go sideways quickly in Jet land this season, and likely cost some front office/coaching jobs in the process.

Rumors of Sean Rhyan being a bust have been greatly exaggerated.  He's had an impressive few days of practice including going 8-0 in 1-1 reps.

This is nice to hear....The O-line was already pretty set, and deep enough, but if he turns out to be a contributor all the merrier.  On a side note, it's funny to me how quickly a guy like Zach Tom CLEARLY leap-frogged a guy like Sean Rhyan last year, and how frequently stuff like that happens (to be fair injuries are often a large part of things like that, but to my knowledge Rhyan was healthy all of last year).

Is he still taking any snaps at Center? That feels like the Packers weak spot on offense outside of the unknowns.

By Myers is physical and a mauler, he's just not very quick. Rhyan was an exceptional athlete, Tom even better. That's such an important position in this scheme...I'd love to see an upgrade there. Hopefully it'll come from more consistent play by Myers along with having Jenkins and JRJ working together, but that's been a problem.

Tom was just impressive. He looked so small last year, but he has such great feet and moves so well that it provides such a wide range of potential outcomes. I could very easily see him becoming an All-Pro at LT, Center. I don't think he looks like a dominant G as he's not a real mauler, but he looks like a guy you can plug in anywhere.

The clearest sign the Packers had confidence in that offensive line was the draft. When have the Packers NOT taken at last a couple OL? It's a deep group and what little we saw from Jones and Walker was impressive. I think both have the potential to be valuable players so long as they manage their bodies well.

Another part of that was Gutekunst saying the Offensive linemen they really liked were "off the board by our pick," so that suggests that Skoronski, Wright and obviously Johnson Jr were possible picks.

Next years draft class may be one of the best for LT prospects atop the board in a long time. Fashanu from PSU, Alt from ND are two guys who look like top 10 picks, but then J.C Latham was a top 3 overall recruit and could move up quickly.

Another guy who I think is a bit under the radar, but the kid who transferred from Oregon to BYU Kinsley Suamatia. 6'6 330, really good athlete. A little Lane Johnson to him...though not as good of an athlete(or he'd be higher).

Just another reason why this is SUCH a massive season for Jordan Love and the Packers. If he proves he can be a good NFL starter, the Packers can really double down on the trenches. Add a young LT, hopefully another DL like Maason Smith from LSU and build this team like Philly and SF vs having to go out and use draft capital on a QB.

Love has a chance to make Gutekunst look like an absolute genius or a donkey. If Love plays well, it doesn't matter if Rodgers wins the MVP, we got our guy. If Love doesn't, we have to start over again and people are going to constantly compare his numbers to Rodgers.

Just going to leave this here...... Not really a big signing.

I’m surprised he didn’t go to the jets. I believe this ties the record for most years played by a tight end which I’m sure was his goal.

I’m interested in seeing how Carlson does, but besides that not sure what we will learn tonight.

He looked outstanding tonight. He has a massive leg, easy power from 50+.

They looked pretty true off his foot.

But to your second point, I'm not sure we learn all that much about even Carlson. We likely don't until the season starts.

I thought Wyatt looked incredible tonight. Brooks looked good as well. Clark is still miscast as a DE in the 3-4. His first step as a NT is what made him special. He's just eating up blocks at DE or the 3. Let Slaton do that. You're trying to either beat your man or occupy blockers to keep the LBers clean. Clarks worst performances has come at DE.

Van Ness looks the part physically. He blew up a couple plays.

Musgrave moves sooo smooth and could be a big deal down the seem.

---That's about all I saw and I don't know how much of it is new information.

He stated explicitly he wasn't planning on playing in NY with the Jets.

Tom supposedly came to camp ~15 lbs heavier than last year.  Exactly what he needed to do in the offseason.

And he still looks small. I imagine this will be a 3-4 year transition before he's fully complete, but he was very solid last year, so...15 pounds(and it's obvious it's not just from eating at Culvers every day) should help quite a bit.

I think he MAY be the most likely player to become an AP among these young guys(though it'll be that much tougher at LT).

Family Night Observations:

  • I remain befuddled by how the Packers as an organization and the local stations covering Family Night. 73K people there. International fan base. Had to randomly find the stream in Twitch? Repeatedly cutting away to commercials in team portions? Lame.
  • After an over-amped overthrowing beginning to his practice, J Love was fantastic. He has such a good arm. He looked natural in the pocket (I know, doesn't mean much under fake live fire)
  • WR Malik Heath looks like something. He really does. The off-season hype appears real.
  • WR Jayden Reed looks like something
  • TE Luke Musgrave is going to be a big problem for opposing defenses. I hope hope hope he stays healthy.
  • RB Tyler Goodson appeared to get the predominant amount of 3rd team RB reps
  • K Anders Carlson was very good. 8-of-9. Several 50 yd + boots. The lone miss was a terrible snap and a bad timing play. He appears to have plenty of leg to hit 55 yarders - something I definitely can't say about late 30's Mason Crosby
  • C Josh Myers continues to have problems. I am pretty sure there have been five miscue snaps/exchanges throughout TC and he has been the C for all of them? He misfired an early snap to J-Love in an 11-on-11 period. A classic case of a Center snapping when the QB is getting the motion man going and was completely unawares. Not drafting C Creed Humphrey continues to haunt the Packers as they fell prey to their stubborn requirements over a clearly more talented player.
  • S Jonathan Owens again started and played with the Ones
  • DL Karl Brooks and Colby Wooden were in the backfield quite a bit with the back-ups.
  • DL Devontae Wyatt continues to flash

That's about all I saw. Curious if anyone else tuned in and saw other things.
