  1. 1. Are we seeing the return of the Marlins version of Yelich?

that's all legitimately great to see, but how the hell is his arm strength rated 48? How does half the league have a weaker arm than Yelich? Lol

IMO, that has been the biggest difference with Yelich. I think the shift rules have upped his offense slightly, but his defense is markedly improved from last year based on the eye-test.

Looks like StatCast has OF throwing data going back to 2020.

Yelich average competitive throw has gone 79.4, 79.7, 81.8 and up to 85.0 MPH this year.

His max velo throw has gone 83.8, 85.5, 88.1 and up to 95.0 MPH this year.

Maybe his back has just been feeling better this year, maybe he made a concerted effort in the offseason to improve his arm strength, maybe some of both?

He cracked ,270 and .800 OPS today. He had an almost 4 week homer drought since this thread started but definitely not having the extended slumps that drove us nuts the last couple of years. For me he is like a Braun after his fall from grace, it has made me a bigger fan, I really really want him to make all the naysayers wrong about the contract. One thing he has that Braun didn’t is the ability to stay on the field. Fingers crossed..

No, Braun, even after the roids.  was in a different class as a hitter than Yelich is at this point.

To assume they are close, I think is an example of how far the team’s offense has fallen off.

Even after his salad days, Ryan Braun ‘13-‘20 put up a slash line of  .278/.341/.493

I don't see a big distinction there. He's stayed healthy this year, but he's missed a few weeks every year.

If he can finish his career...similar to the type of production Braun provided, I'll be happy. I'm not talking specifically about WAR, but just the impact that Braun had.

I don't think he has or will be worth 26M to the Brewers, but THIS version of Yelich is most definitely a net positive. The one thing that baffles me is why we hit him 3rd vs left handed pitchers where it seems like he's less likely to hit for power and more likely to draw a walk, but...on balance, it's hard to complain what he's done in 2023.

I don't think it was meant to be an exact comparison with Braun, simply pointing to a guy who had a long term deal who found a way to contribute on the backend of that deal.

Yelich has just matched his fWAR (2.2) from last year in less than half the games played. Not even halfway into the season, Yelich is worth as much as he has been since 2019…

Braun's OPS+ from '13-'19 were 136, 113, 131, 135, 111, 107, 116.

Yelich's OPS+ for 2023 is 120.

It's pretty close.

I don't know this for a fact but I believe offense is down league wide since Braun's later years.

Braun 13-20
3486 PA | 120 wRC+ | 14.1 WAR | 2.43 WAR/600 PA

Yelich 20-23
1682 PA | 110 wRC+ | 6.7 WAR | 2.39 WAR/600 PA

Post-peak Braun hit better, but post-peak Yelich has fielded and run the bases better so their WAR/600 PA comes out about as close as it gets.

Yeah, one has to adjust for era, especially in a 2013-2020 span. The first part of that span was dead ball, the second half juiced ball.

The last three columns are promising. Like we've all kinda seemed to agree on around here, MVP Yelich probably isn't coming back but Marlins Yelich might.

He's back in that people aren't complaining about his contract all of the time now. That's progress.
