Nvm no need lol. That's why I'm not the manager.

Actually that was good idea.    We just have next Paul molitor behind him

I remember Monasterio at Spring Training. I believe he was wearing number 72, so I didn't think much of his chances of making the team.

"Go ahead. Try to disagree with me. I dare you." Jeffrey Leonard.

Can't be disappointed about that homestand. Hold your own against Atlanta, and then try to feast on the Nats, Rockies, and Pirates.

Awesome job by the bullpen again. 10-3 against the Reds is really, really impressive.

Anyone know where Monteserio came from?

He was a Minor League FA pick-up in the 2021 off-season. The best part of this story? He was originally signed back in 2014 as a Cubbie in their Venezuelan Academy. He's still only 26. SO, this is yet another testament to being patient with talented players. It takes these guys time. Time and opportunity. After the Cubbies stint he went to the Nationals in the Daniel Murphy trade (with a PTBNL in the deal alongside Monasterio). From Washington, he was sent to the Guardians in 2018 where he opted for FA after playing for the Columbus Clippers in the International League.

Big win in the last “”two game swing” game of the season with the Reds.

When I saw Mejia throwing next to Williams after Montaserio’s RBI double, I was actually hoping Miller wouldn’t drive in the run.

Especially with a day off tomorrow I’d rather see Williams with a 3 run lead and some margin for error over Mejia with a 4 run lead.

The good news is - I'm guessing Mejia won't be on the roster once Wilson is officially activated for this weekend.  So, hopefully we've seen the last of him (at least for awhile).  Or, do people think that Wilson is going to replace someone else on the pitching staff?

I suspect the shuttle will still be in heavy use to fill the bullpen.

Megill can be optioned, Mejia can’t. So it’s safer to option Megill and wait on Mejia to see what happens at the trade deadline.

Cool thing to me is that Monasterio actually bet on the Brewers. Signed a second minor league deal this past offseason despite all the competition for even AAA playing time. Here’s what I’d written earlier on him:

It’s nice to see Monasterio’s bet on the Brewers paying off. A minor league depth addition last year, he was crowded out from AAA Nashville in June 2022 and bumped down to AA Biloxi for nearly 2 months.

He finished the season with Nashville, then played two months of Venezuelan Winter Ball, racking up 160 plate appearances by late December.

In the meantime, he re-upped on a Minor League deal with the Brewers on December 20 despite knowing he’d be battling Turang, Toro, Owen Miller, Devanney and Dorrian for AAA playing time. And we also added Eddy Alvarez on that same December 20, then Josh VanMeter shortly after.

Monasterio just turned 26 years old in May and I hope he has a long, successful MLB career ahead of him.

Yeah, I’m actually intrigued with the stuff Mejia has shown so far. Megill has good stuff, too, but is prone to wildness and has a longer track record of not being a very good MLB pitcher.

Makes sense to keep them both.

When you have a heater as good as Freddy, today was yet another lesson:

You still eat your bread with your off-speed stuff. Off-speed is so important. It sets everything else up. The heater becomes even more lethal. We saw it in Burnes' start two games ago. Today, Peralta was so mature in his arsenal and his stuff. But, the off-speed was what made it go.

We are seeing this in the lower Levels too. The best relievers are unafraid with their heater but they eat with their off-speed. RHP Shane Smith is a current example of this at High-A Wisconsin. Anywho, I absolutely love it when fastball guys exploit their stuff and attack with off-speed to set their entire outing up for success. It's brilliant. This was a brilliant start.
