Who do you WANT to see and who do you THINK we'll see?  Black and Gasser would be cool but I think we'll see something like Owen Miller and Lauer.  I think it will be a pitcher and an infielder.

I don't even want to see him now. Now he'll get 7 ABs a week, he struggles and that'll be used against him and you blow the opportunity to bring him back when the Brewers inevitably non-tender Tellez next year and you COULD bring him back at 1.1M.

So I'll go with...

Want-Toro/Lauer or Gasser

Predict-Winker/Sousa?

I'd also like to see Devanney, but I have no reason to believe they're gonna call him up, but he certainly covers the SS/3B defensive flexibility.

Started out terribly and yet he's still put up a good line and has a .307.381.560 .941 OPS vs lefties? That seems like it could be useful.

Winker is who I THiNK.

I don’t see why Toro wouldn’t be called up, though.

To me, there’s no point calling up Toro if we won’t play him at 3B/2B. If we’re calling up someone who’s not permitted to play defense (Toro, Hiura, Winker), then Hiura should come up by virtue of having the best bat.

But if we intend to call up someone who can play in the field, then I guess the choice is between Owen Miller or Jahmai Jones. We’ll see…

Agreed.  Our biggest need is a 2b/3b to face tough righties for Monasterio and tough lefties for Turang (both have significant splits).  Being a switch hitter with fairly even splits this year, Toro might fill that role best.  But if CC doesn't trust his glove, then it makes no sense.

Jones could play at 2b and has played 3b/of so he would also make sense.  He has a great OBP in AAA so at least he would get on base.  I dont trust Miller's bat anymore so I would prefer him not get the call, but he could at least hit better than Turang against LH.

Black would be ideal, just not sure they want to start his clock and occupy a 40 man roster slot yet.

Think: Colin Rea, with either Toro, or Owen Miller. With Santana, Tellez, Canha, Wiemer, Taylor and Frelick they’ve got plenty of bodies for 1B, RF, DH and CF so I don’t see Winker or Hiura returning to Milwaukee.

Want: it’d be exciting to see a phenom break in during September but there’s 40 man roster issues with that so it makes it kind of unlikely outside Gasser in the pen.

Want - Black, Lauer

Think - Miller, Lauer

Lauer is striking out 13.9/9 at Nashville, and they only need him to be a 1-3 IP reliever, not a starter, so I go with the strikeout rate.  Gasser's K rate is 11.1.

Tyler Black had a 999 OPS over his last 10 games. If he has a couple more good games this week, I think he'll be starting for the Brewers Friday.

If a guy like Black is good enough to start Friday he is good enough to start now. Not sure what magic September 1 holds, there is no advantage with service time or rookie of the year eligibility.

Anderson isn't even playing at this point. I don't see why Black shouldn't get the call at once.

Given he defensive prerogative for Miley and Anderson hitting Taillon quite well previously, he may start tonight

Maybe, but seems to me like CC has lost complete confidence in Anderson's ability to hit given Monasterio hasn't exactly been lighting things up at the plate. And I wouldn't blame him based on Anderson's at-bats since he came off the IL.

I absolutely agree. I think if he's not playing tonight that's damning

I think it will be Hiura and Winker with Mitchell replacing Wiemer and Lauer/Ashby replacing Chafin.

Mitchell is probably your pinch runner with Hiura and Winker being late inning off the bench bats.  I don’t see much playing time for Hiura as Yelich, Contreras, Canha and Tellez are all going to get games at DH.  That leaves maybe one game a week for Hiura/Winker to start as the DH.

Black certainly makes sense. He can platoon with Monasterio at 3B and serve as a pinch runner late in games. I just get the feeling they’ll want to go with a more veteran guy like Miller or Winker.

Very few off days left so it'll be surprising if one slot isn't used on a P and possibly used as an up and down spot as needed for pitchers.

Everything noted by Nate above leads me to think someone like Hiura/Winker don't make sense.  Essentially, Winker/Tellez are the same thing except Tellez has been clearly better the last two seasons.    If Hiura isn't gonna play why lose him for next year.  I'd guess a utility type Miller/Toro would be the remaining spot. Someone who can be used in various late game subs or to cover a day or two of rest/minor injury as needed to someone.

That said, the fact Winker hasn't been straight up released seems telling that he's gonna be the guy.

I’ve been hoping Winker would be released since June … so he’ll probably be added to the roster & catch fire & win NL Player of the Month

Mitchell?  He hasn't even started a rehab assignment yet.
