Down to their last strike, I can't get over how quiet that stadium was.

I went to a few of those wrigley night Brewer-Cub games when I still lived in that area years ago...so fun for that sold out ballpark to be quieter than most funerals after a Brewers win...makes that organ really stand out in the summer night!

Feel like that 1st inning just sucked all the energy out of the crowd

This is a very bad take.

The odds I saw were Cubs (-130) Brewers (+110).

Chicago has considerably more bettors, so I’d imagine the casinos’ takes were quite good tonight.

Great win tonight.  I know we, as fans, love to rip bad umpiring but I think James Hoye deserves a ton of credit behind the dish tonight.  His zone was so consistent and he had absolutely minimal impact on the game.  Was really nice to see.

The brewers are just hot

Milwaukee was in first place all year with a bunch of players that were underperforming.     Almost everyone save for a few

counsell held them together.    And now they are starting to perform and they can’t lose.

Yep. Whatever the strike zone, just call it the same for both teams. The ump did that tonight.

What a surprising response.

Why? When you spend the weekend with people around you getting excited at virtually every ball hit in the air, I have a hard time criticizing Cubs fans for doing the same thing.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

Yes. He was consistent. And I appreciate that.

Because Miley pitched well and Tallinn pulled it together after the ambush, it didn’t make a difference.

if this had been a Peralta start, he could  have been over 100 pitches and not done with 5 innings. The effect of a tight zone like that feels pretty context dependent.

Just the way Levering called that live he thought that was foul. Thanks for sucking, Angel.

With those tight lines up against the bricks Levering probably couldn’t see it land and had to wait for the call.

Counsell REALLY needs to be named Manager of the Year.

Feels like he should have won in '18 at least, but...it'll probably take a huge Sept and chasing down the Dodgers in order for him to win it this year(and I think we can safely say that's not likely to happen).

The only thing that’s keeping this pitching staff from being elite (obviously they are still very good) is the tendency to give up the gopher ball.    If they could keep it in the park a little more they are going to be tough to score on even more than they are now

Why would it take that? I think it's his to lose right now. Atlanta has a monster lineup, LA is LA, so it's more likely to go to someone in the 3-5 range. He may also benefit from being in the running multiple times and not coming away with it.

Because he's out-performed other managers going on incredible runs in Sept before and still not won it.

He's been runner up 3X. Doesn't seem like a 92 win season will do it. Especially if the Cubs finish in the playoffs and within a couple games.

Christian Yelich homer in that game I feel was absolutely huge, it just settled the nerves instantly. It was beautiful.

The reason I think it was important is because the Cubs have the best infield defense in baseball, Hoerner and Swanson are exemplary, but wow did Swanson struggle last night, and you could attribute multiple runs to them (potentially three?) with the extra out in the first likely saving two runs, then the throw into the dugout.

The Brewers on the other hand, especially Turang, who was handling some nasty hops with ease, prevented men on when the home runs came.

That's a game where last seasons Kolten Wong would've lost the Brewers the game (and even more so this seasons Kolten Wong)

If the Reds make the playoffs David Bell would have a more compelling  case as manager of the year:  the Reds were to be a rebuilding club in ‘23  not predicted to do anything; to wit they were 8 games under .500 near the end of May, then he gets his squad to play .566 baseball ever since.

David Ross will get manager of the year votes as well as the Cubs situation is similar to the Reds, rebuilding team on the verge of selling only to put it together and have a firm grip on a wild card spot.

Counsell should have a pile of manager of the year awards for constantly getting more out of less, but the media who votes on these things apparently aren’t Craig fans (one voter gave Joe Maddon their first place vote in ‘18, four voters have their first place vote to Dave Roberts in ‘19).

Fans do that in every ball park.

Milwaukee is basically ignored by the the national baseball media types.  We are one of the hottest teams and nobody is talking about it very much.  Often they want to lament about the fall of the Yankees instead.

Yep, those are two potential options for sure. SF and Arizona potentially have overperformed as well. If it comes out that he's retiring instead of coming back before voting takes place, I think he'll be the overwhelming winner as a recognition that he's been deserving any number of years and hasn't won yet.

Even if he's back, with the decimation of the starting rotation, their record in one run games, I still think he has the strongest case (assuming current positions hold).

So true ! We could win twenty games in a row and they would find something else to talk about ! At times I'm fine with it , other times I think it's ridiculous !
