Lucas Giolito, Hunter Renfroe, Randal Grichuk, Matt Moore and Reynaldo Lopez can be claimed by teams Thursday

I would be interested in Giolito, Moore, or Lopez, but not sure if they would make it to Milwaukee

Matt Moore would look really good in the Brewers bullpen.  Swap him out for Chafin.

Giolito, yeah, of course, especially with Houser hitting IR.

Lol. We're thinking alike.

Giolito would be great, but I feel like he's almost a certainty to get scooped up by one of the outside contenders (Reds, Giants, Dbacks, Cubs, etc.)

Boy, wouldn't Matt Moore be a great replacement for a certain someone in the bullpen?

I thought the same but I have serious doubts any of these players (maybe Renfroe but doubt we want him) would make it to us on the waiver list. Would love Moore or Lopez to replace Chafin.

Doubt these guys make it to the Brewers. A number of NL teams below the Brewers fighting for the wild card plus AL teams like the Rangers, Astros, Blue Jays, Twins.

Yeah. Moore, Lopez, and Giolito are almost certainly going to end up in Miami, Minneapolis, Cincy, San Fran, Phoenix, Boston, or Chicago.

We don't need Renfroe with Canha and TT.

The Angels, which have a bottom 5 farm system to begin with, just gave up some of their top prospects (one a top 100 prospect) to get these guys....

And are set to lose Ohtani in FA, with an increasingly injured Trout possessing a full no trade clause and Rendon still owed $115 million over the next three seasons....

Bottom 3 run franchise in the sport easily. Rockies, A's, and Angels.

I understood they really wanted to keep Ohtani, but they could have gotten an unprecedented deal for a rental.

Amazing they actually traded AWAY prospects and now they're just trying to save some money apparently?

They're not the Rockies because I at least understand why they do what they do...it just never smart.

I remember being in there thanks to Wendy and Sal.

Kinda puts Stearns and Attanasio into perspective.

Manfred should void this. Such blatant salary dumping that messes with the playoff race should be illegal.

I wouldn't be surprised if he does but I am not expecting it to happen.

As of today the Brewers would be 25th.  The teams that could benefit from this are the Yankees, Marlins, Reds, Giants, Twins, Red Sox, Dbacks and the Cubs.  All of these teams have a higher priority than the Cubs.  The Cubs are 20th in the order so it is possible one player gets to them but unlikely.  The Yankees and Reds need pitching so I don't think Giolito gets past them or past the Giants or Red Sox.  Miami could use another bat so Renfroe or Grichuk make some sense for them.  The Twins could use a bullpen arm so Moore makes some sense there also.  The Giants could also benefit from Giolito as he would fill a rotation hole.

I expect all of the players to get picked up before some of the current playoff leaders even get to pick.  I think we can expect a rule change this off season to deal with this just not sure what they are going to do.

Yankees just made a similar move in dropping Donaldson. They're not going to be involved with these guys at this point.

They also waived Bader

Just because they dropped Donaldson why would that have any impact on picking up someone like Giolito?  Donaldson has sucked horribly this year it is surprising they have kept him for this long.

They just waived Bader, too. They've waived the white flag on the season and aren't going to pick up the extra salary when they're already in the process of clearing salary.

Normally I would agree with this (based on the names alone) but when you dig deeper the only true addition to playoff contending teams in the group is Matt Moore.  Maybe a team like the Cubs with Taillion vs Giolito (who is in the Mid 4's ERA wise and has absolutely been awful since he got to Anaheim).  I would actually think this might have already been cleared by Manfred before this was done.

Again the Yankees waived two players who have absolutely sucked this year.  Teams do this all the time it will not exclude them from picking someone up.

Nitpick on the As.  They just won at a 97 pace for three years in a row, then 86 one year with crap payrolls.  The last two years have been intentional losing to move.  I guess its still fair to say 'franchise' though as the messed up situation leading to moving is the franchise's overall fault.   But baseball ops can still win if they want, so a bit of semantics but just giving the baseball side of it some recognition. They're not bumbling idiots (though our trade with them is a red flag) in terms of baseball, its everything else.

The Yankees are just as likely as the A's, Pirates, Cardinals, etc. to pick up these guys at this point.

Bader has not "absolutely sucked", either. He crushes lefties and plays an elite CF. That's useful for most contenders and the Yankees would not have released him otherwise.
