If the Brewers know they will add Chourio to the 40 man roster next year (probable, but not certain), I'd role the dice at this point on Jackson providing more than Wiemer at this point offensively.

Even against LHP (where Wiemer has hit 270/300/522/822 on the year, is eroding in the second half:

  • 263/263/263/526 in August (19 PAs)
  • 100/182/200/382 in  Sept (11 PAs)

Small sample sizes, but really trending the wrong way.

Tyrone Taylor is hitting 324/359/595/954 vs LHP in Aug/Sept (similarly 39 PA samples) and should be playing in most of the time now. His history against LHP is also solid (not 954 OPS solid, but a respectable 247/299/438/738)

"Rock, sometime, when the team is up against it, and the breaks are beating the boys, tell 'em to go out there with all they got and win just one for the Uecker. I don't know where I'll be then, Rock but I'll know about it; and I'll be happy."

I think he is our weakest link in the lineup. Any Ideas?

Hope another organization thinks they can fix him?  I don't know if there will be room for him when Mitchell is healthy and Chourio comes up.

He's so broken at the plate, It's tough to watch... he has no chance with that pre-swing drop of the hands.

Our outfield of the future should be Chourio, Mitchell, and Frelick. Wiemer shouldn't be considered an everyday starter without a major swing overhaul. I think he could still make a solid 4th/5th outfielder with speed and as an elite defender.

He would face easier pitching to get his confidence back.

As Yogi  Berra always used to say.

Baseball is ninety percent mental. The other half is physical.

He should have been sent down a while ago but not sure what one Minor League hitting coach could do if the Two Major League coaches could not help

It isn't like his swing suddenly "got weird."  Perhaps they were OK with him moving his hands all over the place as the pitcher is delivering the pitch.  That is why they are there, and I'm sitting in a chair posting on Brewerfanatic 😉

I'm tossing around an interesting idea we may add to the handbook we're writing for the offseason.

Would you trade Joey Wiemer for the Twins' Jose Miranda?

I think the Twins would have to add a little to the package. Miranda is older and coming off surgery. He's not a good third baseman but has room to improve and can always play first base. He's also very cheap for some time.

But given both teams' roster needs going forward and their particular strengths, it's an interesting idea.

The Brewers and Twins have matched up perfectly the last few years in terms of players of need for each team and nothing has come of it for the most part.  Both should be about equal in value with Wiemer maybe having a little bit more value but I think a Miranda and Y. Severino for Wiemer would be a fair trade.  With Wiemer's defense and offensive potential he should have about $10m in surplus value which is just over what a Miranda and Severino trade would have.

I think Severino might be too much as an add-in - he's having a helluva season in 2023 - but mostly, I agree with this. Severino isn't way off the mark, he's just having something of a breakout year. I'm not particularly high on him but the Twins might be.

Hope that Garrett Mitchell can knock off the rust quickly.

Perkins had a less severe injury and has already started his rehab, he’s probably ahead of Mitchell at the moment anyway.

Sounds like Yelich will be back shortly and hopefully Canha not long after, so Wiemer (or whoever replaces him) should be back to minimal PT pretty soon.

He should be in the minors hitting every day and his offseason assignment should be to rework his swing.

He should go see the guy Kerry Carpenter works with.

Video below is pretty informative and he talks about it some in this interview too.

Start him in AAA in 2024 and make him learn a real swing

The converse is the reason for not bringing up Chourio - you don't want to kill his confidence by having him jump two levels to the majors when he may not be ready.

Chourio's OPS in August was .718 and in September is .705.  Doesn't scream "significant upgrade" over Wiemer.  In fact, Chourio's OPS this season has been under .800 every month except for a scorching hot July.

Wiemer's not going anywhere until both Canha and Perkins are ready to go.  And at this point, no reason to send him down to burn an option.

Chourio is only in AA now and 19 years old,  So maybe next year but I doubt if he will be here this year.  But he is good.

From Sept. 1 through the end of the regular season, all clubs must carry 28 players, with a limit of 14 pitchers.
