I have seen several posts regarding a perfect fit for the next Brewers manager. Someone fresh to the position may have some merit, but there will be growing pains. Brewers need to look outside of the organization for someone with experience to lead the team. A team that just won the division is not one that should do a complete rebuild.

Mattingly has proven to be a winner, it was not his fault that the Marlins stripped the team to be a farm-league team. Hopefully, for Brewers fans, we will not have to wait years for the next playoff birth.

Manager >> Bench Coach

No comment on if the Brewers would pick.  Based on that quote the other day and the experience he has with the team it sure seems possible to me but idk.

For him, for sure he'd take the manager job over bench coach.  Being a college coach years ago before the money boom in college sports and then assistant in the majors for years sure he's made a nice living.  And its not like I know his salary as bench coach but have to guess its in the 100s of thousands. Again, good living but not rich rich.  At his age one Manager hire on a 3-4 year contract sets him for the rest of his life, heck he might make more on that contract than he has in the last like 15-20 years combined.

Disappointed to not see Seitzer on any of the lists.  Does anyone have any intel on him as to why?  In looking back at his Braves teams over the last several years, he has clearly had some top end talent.  That said, it has been fairly remarkable how even mediocre talent seems to hit when they get to the Braves (ie Orlando Arcia).  Matt Olson (a really good hitter before) comes over and turns into Babe Ruth.  I haven't seen his name mentioned as having interviewed for any team.  Scratching my head as to why...

I know Craig and Murphy are tight.  Part of me thinks that we should just move one and get a whole new system.  The other part thinks that having coached under Craig, Murph might have a good enough grasp of the analytics side while possessing a little of the old school 'hit 'em where they ain't" philosophy that Craig never seemed to embrace. Have to think that he might bring a little more fire to the dugout than Craig did.  His 21 years in college ball might be valuable with our youngsters.

Mattingly is a proven winner, in what way? He managed the Dodgers and mustered the postseason 3/5 years…never winning more than 94 games. He advanced to the NLCS once.

He didn’t even make the postseason until the Dodgers starting running the #1 payroll in baseball.

According to Bob Nightengale, the Brewers are keeping a close eye on Mike Shildt, if he doesn't get hired by SD

The Milwaukee Brewers, who are strongly considering promoting bench coach Pat Murphy, also have their eyes on Mike Shildt if he’s not hired by the San Diego Padres.

Sounds like Espada will be the Astros Manager so cross him off the list

Yuck … I don’t want to see Shildt, Mattingly, or (especially) Murphy

I’d love to see a young, sharp, current Brewers system guy get a shot

I hope we get this done this week...

I must admit, waiting is driving me nuts.

I'll get over it eventually but I would have a hard time with Schildt as manager. I never want to see any of that Cardinal Way crap in Milwaukee.

Well, Schildt did get fired for “philosophical differences” in St. Louis so maybe he wasn’t “Cardinals Way” enough.

Nonetheless, an underwhelming candidate in general. Never played in either the majors or minors, racked up a bunch of wins as Cardinals manager yet couldn’t land any other manager gigs since getting canned in ‘21.

I’m not real impressed with Pat Murphy either. Bench coach for one of the better clubs in the NL the last 5+ seasons and never interviewed or seemingly tried to take a step up a manage a team again. Seems like a guy that gets hired to get fired in a couple of years when the team “needs a spark” or “wants to change directions”

I guess I’d take a chance on one of those front office assistants who is a former player: Villanueva, Rickie Weeks, Charlie Greene etc. with one of those baseball lifers as bench coach.

I’m not sold on Weeks as a manager……never been impressed with him as a communicator…….which I view as hugely important in that role.

i guess I don’t have a strong preference for anyone that I’ve heard mentioned…..just hope they can come to a decision soon.

Based solely on his post-game interviews as a player, I had the same initial reaction.  Then I considered the fact that I have no idea how much weight that should carry.  Not to mix sports, but I’ve often thought Aaron Jones wasn’t a terribly effective communicator based on his interviews, either, and by all accounts he’s an absolute leader in the locker room and even the huddle.  Stick a camera in someone’s face, and things can get a little weird for them.

So then I’m back to the fact that I don’t know much about anything regarding managers, and I’m just waiting around hoping for the best.

Get Rickie Weeks to rub his OBP skills on the guys...just don't let his defensive gene rub off on them.

Or the baseball magnet at the batters box.  I swear the ball would just seek out and find him in the batters box.

He might've leaned into one or two. All part of his on base skills.

I’m not shocked they are giving it to him, to be honest. He may very well end up a placeholder if 2024 is the 90+ loss spiral it could be. He is by far the easiest guy to hire and then can in a year. Cheap too, I am sure.

We came in late to the manager FA party and any of the ones that remained had their sights set on other teams already. Probably should be happy we didn’t hire an old retread guy just to get someone notable.

What is there to lose? The other options weren’t exactly great and most of them will be available next offseason anyway. Maybe he is good, maybe not. Just can him if he is.

Pat Murphy with Rickie Weeks going in training to replace him in a few years would work for me. I'm not at all opposed to Weeks outright either.

A lot would have to go wrong for this team to suddenly be a 90+ loss doormat.
