This is probably my favorite game of the year so far. Not because we're scoring, but because we're scoring throughout the entire game, not sitting on a big lead the last three innings. Plus it's against the Cardinals.

Everyone with 2 hits except Dunn.

I hope Ortiz gets ABs tomorrow

If this is the Turang going forward that changes the potential of this group.

Frankly, this is the Turang many projected after his junior year in high school when he was widely talked about being the 1st overall draft pick the following summer.

The combo of great defense, solid hitting with a little pop, and game-changing speed on the bases is an incredibly valuable middle infielder.

Oh no the Cubbies lost to the Marlins and the Classies got shellacked at the hands of our Brewsers?

I am absolutely crushed.

I'll need a moment to regroup.

I have to say I still have hope for Hall as a starter. He did good getting ahead of guys and then tried to be to precise not want to make a mistake with 2 strikes. I think he can work as a starter at 92-94 but needs to challenge hitters when ahead better. He kind of reminds me a bit of Corbin in 2019, had some success as a reliever then has stunk his 2nd year but has some signs he can still do it.

That being said I would only give him a start or two to figure it out before we send him to the pen or AAA.

Ortiz's defense has been much worse actually and he may actually be the worst defender on the team up to this point. Have you not seen some of the balls he's air mailed over to first base?

I have. I'm going by reputation. You're right; on a results-based basis he hasn't been up to snuff.

But if you ask scouts, FO types & minor league folks across the land I'm pretty sure Ortiz will get an overwhelming thumbs up over Dunn. Plus Ortiz can play SS.

He's the worst defender on the team the same way that Koenig is the most talented pitcher on the team because his ERA is zero.

I still feel pretty optimistic about Hall. I think today was a large dose of needing to locate better & get past what I think is a propensity to be afraid of contact when he gives up a hit or two. But also a large dose of not catching a break to save his life. Yeah, he missed his spot too often. But he also threw quite a few pitches w/2 strikes that were in a quality spot where you often get a swing from a hitter. St Louis took virtually every one of them. Throw in the weird twist of the ball hit to Turang, the bunt that he should've let roll foul......I don't know how long the leash is for him as a rotation member but if it was me I'm not there yet.

Hall as a starter was always going to be a work in progress. If he can get something like 25 GS and 125 IP I'll take whatever results come along with it.

But yeah, gotta figure that barring improvement he is the odd man out once Gasser or Junis are ready to join the rotation.

With Gray going, I'd assume that, if Rea doesn't go 6 or 7 strong, you're punting, especially if you can win today. Maybe that's just me in Gray-owns-us mode, though. :)

A couple of the late inning guys are available tomorrow if the game dictates it, plus you have Hudson. To get the sweep it probably needs to be a game similar to what we saw Friday. Now that I typed that, welcome aboard 8-6 game.😄

And the Cubs lost the 1st one today to the Marlins today.

Sorry but his much longer are you going with him killing the bullpen at this point

Which pitcher do you think could throw more innings while surrendering fewer runs?

I don’t know but it sounds like Murphy is getting close to giving someone else a shot.

He probably has until Junis and Gasser get healthy to figure things out. Maybe 1-2 more starts?

I know he’s only at AA but is Blalock a possibility? He’s on the 40 man.
