What someone did yesterday is almost never going to play into a lineup decision.

Not for the Brewers it doesn't.

I disagree with your assessment.  I bet a lot of managers make line-up decisions based on recent success at the plate.  You'd be foolish not to take that into account.

There is something to be said for hitters when they get hot or have a good day at the plate, and letting them play more when things are going right.  Penalizing them for having a good day the game before is stupid, and we do it a lot.  Counsell did it, now Murphy is following suit.

It feels like Contreras is ALWAYS on base.

Love it!

Speaking more broadly - maybe. I could see someone having a good week/month swaying the process, but strictly speaking, whether you hit a homer the day before is going to have almost zero effect. You're going to plan out off days in a way to ensure your goals for rest and playing time are met across the team, not making it up day by day.

Meh, we'll have to agree to disagree on your point of the day before never being a factor on the following day's line-up.

You can't tell me that today was a planned off day for Ortiz.  He hasn't played enough to have a scheduled off day.

Are you arguing that Murphy didn't plan to sit Ortiz but then changed his mind? Maybe we're conflating planning with needing rest. Obviously you're right he doesn't need a day off, But clearly Murphy has a plan and someone hitting a homer the day before isn't typically going to alter that plan.

I'm not a big fan of strict L/R balance in the lineup but if I had to theorize allowing young players to face pitchers of opposite handedness maybe gives them a boost in trying to get guys going with the bats. There's so many young guys that all need at bats. That said, I wouldn't be against Dunn going back down to get those at bats but I don't mind that he's getting an opportunity here.

Sure.    But why does a nothing prospect need this long of a leash.  I get when you give a Mccutchen or Winker like two months due to their career.   But a guy who was never supposed to be good, wasn't supposed to make the team and then proceeds to suck for 5 weeks I don't get what they hope all of a sudden changes.  ETA: forgot to mention he spend much of that time batting in the heart of the order

Of course, for all we know Ortiz might crash if given more vs RHP ABs but at least he has the potential is "supposed to be good" type of thing going on with him.   Same goes for people like Frelick or Chourio in I see the "why" behind it. But for him I just don't get it.   IF he's this bad and they seem to dislike Ortiz at 3B you might as well start digging around for a vet 3B via trade now rather than wait until July.    Maybe get Travis Shaw back for one more go

Dunn's a career minor leaguer for a reason...

He does have a cannon at 3rd though.

Yeah I can't argue with you. Mostly just looking for the "why" in it. Bottom line I'd rather give Ortiz and Chourio the playing time.

We lean way too heavily on certain things. No reason to pull him at 67 pitches. This bullpen is going to be dead by August.

5 IP 67 pitches and Murphy pulls him? I mean he gave up the walk but come on you can't do that

Ross underwent Tommy John surgery last May for the second time in his career.
