Hoky Smokes!  All day I've been packing for a big trip. Then I remembered that the Brewers play at noon.  How nice to hear a 10-1 score!  Oh. Boy.  I'll enjoy reading the thread and watching the condensed game on the plane (when I should be sleeping).

Can we DFA Roller now and get BREWER on the Brewers?

I like Roller as a Triple-A guy/AAAA guy. He plays hard. He's disciplined and quite a solid defender. Hopefully, he finds an unlikely spark as he is only recently back from injury. BUT, in 2024 even though I would hope the Brewers get creative with these end-of-the-roster spots, I just don't see it happening just yet. Make no mistake,  Hicklen has been utterly fantastic for Nashville - 2 2-HR games in the past week and a career high 6 RBI last night. And, he's also strikeout prone historically and this year appears no different despite a fantastic year overall. BUT, he is kind of just a guy as a defensive OF'er. SO, I am imagining the Brewers are loathe to open up a DFA'd roster opening for a position player at this juncture given the tentative pitching scene at large. Too many injuries and unknowns there.

Mitchell is coming back soon to boot. They appear admirably over-invested in Wiemer. As much as I like Brewer (on the Brewers, no less!), I just don't see it happening unless he continues to mash like this past week for quite a bit longer. Heck of a lottery ticket insurance policy to have, tho, of he should stay in our system (ie, he has no opt-out and still has options ?? I know he was called up with the Royals in 2022).

One of the reasons I don’t get overly excited about really high scoring blowout games. They often include several runs against the dregs of the bullpen, a pitcher left in to absorb punishment and, sometimes, a position player.

Adames is 19th in the MLB in fWAR. He's an incredibly valuable player based on ability despite people here hating on him all the time.

Maybe, but what team needs a SS rental and is also ready to give something of value to get one? Supply and demand will top fWAR everytime

I'm sure I'm in the minority - but I'm ready to trade Adames for a starting pitcher & let Ortiz & Turang handle the SS duties moving forward

In that scenario, who plays 3B?

Will Wilken be ready by the all star break?  Had he not had that awful injury, maybe he would have been.  At least he is back on the field.

Brewers First 25 Games
3.46 ERA | 86 ERA-

(two games giving up 15 runs to Yankees)

Last 15 Games Before Today
3.50 ERA | 87 ERA-

Yeah but what was the team ERA for those two Yankee games?!

And what is the Brewer record in games they don’t win? I bet it’s awful

At least Gasser is 2-0 now.

Boy would it be nice if Gasser is for real and can keep up something like what he has done.

I loved that outing from White. Up 8 runs and dude just pounded the strike zone. I think Vieira can be DFA'd and his spot goes to shuttle arms who can be optioned. White can be the mop up guy.

My bad we play the Astros next. Dah.

I wonder if Perez was tipping his pitches.  Ortiz, Chourio, and El Gary all hammered change ups. The change ups to Chourio and Sanchez weren't great pitches, but it was an 0-0 or 0-1 count, and the one to Ortiz was low and out of the zone.

You'd think that has to at least be entering their thought process.

One of the issues with getting rid of Vieira is that the only two relief arms performing at a high level in Nashville - Enoli Paredes (1.02 ERA | 1.58 FIP) and Rob Zastryzny (1.65 ERA | 1.66 FIP) - are both out of options too.

I think Taylor Clarke may take Vieira's spot in the not too distant future since it gives them some more flexbility with his option remaining. Maybe even in time for the Astros series.

What was funny to me today was looking at the batting order, it pretty much appeared to be "Let's make sure Contreras & Adames get the extra AB if need be". And here they score ten runs.

Hopefully Frelick has found something. And it's nice to see Chourio remind everyone just how much he has in the toolbox.

Rottino made a great point in postgame. Gasser made one heckuva terrific pitch to McCutchen w/2 on & 2 out. It was still a game at that point, to start him off w/the changeup AND put it in a perfect spot to get him on one pitch-----just a very impressive start to his Brewer career.

Yeah, that's part of the reason why it isn't a slam dunk. But I would imagine they're considering it & will eventually pull the trigger. They seem to be reaching a sort of temporal crossroads coming up in early June, with the chance of a # of people returning or close to doing so, and when the smoke clears I think Vieira will be somewhere else then if not before.

We'll see.

HOUSTON -- Astros right-hander Ronel Blanco, one of baseball’s breakout performers in the first six weeks of the regular season, could be facing a 10-game suspension after he was ejected from a sticky substance found in his glove. Blanco, who was 4-0 with a 2.23 ERA in seven starts entering the game.

They'd be scared to death to do that in-season after the clubhouse reaction to the Hader deal. Not that it doesn't make some sense on paper. But a team that might have use for Adames wouldn't be in position to deal a proven starter anyway.
