Which the Brewers won't exercise since it's like $20 million.

If he pitches his ass off down the stretch I bet they think long and hard about it.

So the rotation is likely (in no particular order): Montas, Myers, Peralta, Rea and Civale. Let's go get a bat please.

Yep. Ross in the pen I guess. It's not great but given there's like 50 games left it could be worse. Disappointed about Weimer because they could use a guy like him if he could get it together.

Hope he pitches well, but $20M?? I hope they don't think about that at all. Has not done anything so far to deserve that kind of money and two months of good pitching does not change that. He's not worth the $14M he is currently making.

I like this trade for what is now likely the first in a series of trades. I think the crew get another arm and a bat. Wiemer for me was very likely to be moved as a 40 man spot needed clearing and Junis was meh for me. I trust the Brewers front office and eye for pitching. Need a front line starter tho. Flaherty if the price is right?

Probably put Ross in the pen but he likely won't be there long because either he or someone in the rotation will get hurt.

I guess this will open up more PT for Tyler Black in the OF. Unexpected perk of this deal, hopefully. My ongoing opinion is the OF grass is his best bet defensively.

The price for Flaherty must have been too high so the team pivoted.

Considering what the jays got for Kikuchi, I think you are right

Man he's gotten his lunch handed to him in July. Coming off the shoulder injury he could be running out of gas. Unless they want to use him in short stints?

I've written off Weimer, but I'd rather have Junis than Montas.

But Montas is a starter and Junis is  reliever both are free agents in 60 days.  Who cares about Wiemer, odds are he would not have a spot in the Brewer OF anyways with Yelich, Frelick, Perkins, Chourio and Mitchell

I'd rather have Junis pitching fewer innings than Montas pitching a lot.

Montas is straight up awful.

I don't care one iota about Wiemer.

Also some interesting implications reading between the lines for Brewer Hicklen.

At least a possibility that his strong season moved him ahead of Wiemer in the front office’s view, making Joey more expendable.

Yeah but Wiemer is an asset. Cost controlled, good defensive and has some chance of higher offensive ceiling. That is something many teams want. So Wiemer or Junis for Montas makes sense, but 2-for-1 and nothing else coming back (cash, or PTBNL, or a lower level prospect). Very very curious.

DL Hall may come back as a 'pen arm (to replace Hudson) and Mears/Ross replaces Junis/AAAA call up innings I guess. Montas to join Freddie/Rea/Meyers/Civale as the starting 5. Wilson back as swing man. IDK

Oh well. Let's see how this all ages.

Wiemer was blocked by how many total outfielders (6? Black, Hicklen + MLB) with a busted swing which has produced no power in AAA. There has been no positive progression on Wiemer's swing, my only nod here is he did get more patient - but the fact that he has any value at all right now to get a SP in the market is a win and didn't cost a leverage prospect.

Junis was good for sure, but that sample is still small, and doesn't DL Hall / Ross just take that role? This feels like a "having too many arms figures itself out" - Junis was on a one year, Montas is a rental, Wiemer makes a fun story for Cinci with the hometown kid.

Now just in Arnold/Hook we trust.

Yeah, feels like the FO was out on Wiemer and wanted to clear his 40 man spot. So Junis vs Montas for the rest of the year. Must feel better about the ability to get more innings out of Montas but whew, it doesn't look great. See how he performs

Getting Frankie freaking Montas for Wiemer means he had no value, none, zip, zero, zilch.

Pretty sure they dumped Junis so they didn't have to pay him, making what we have to pay Montas a little less.

I don’t mind this trade. We gave up little, and Ross will take Junis’s spot. We have a pitcher with top of rotation potential if he can get right.

It’s 14 million this year with a 2 million dollar buy out on a mutual option. Brewers likely on hook for 6-7 million MINUS the 3.3 they owed Junis in salary and buy out. Rarely If ever are mutual options exercised
