I think Chourio splitting time between LF and RF probably took him out of the running.

He was definitively the best defensive RFer in the league by DRS until he shifted over to LF in the aftermath of Yelich's injury and ended up playing most of his innings there.

He’s not going to win but I’m happy to see Perkins get the recognition for his stellar play out there.

He did get a lot of press for tying the MLB record of stolen HRs.  If it is at all close, that might sway some votes.

"Rock, sometime, when the team is up against it, and the breaks are beating the boys, tell 'em to go out there with all they got and win just one for the Uecker. I don't know where I'll be then, Rock but I'll know about it; and I'll be happy."

Turang and Frelick both led their positions in defensive runs saved by a wide margin.

No big names that Frelick is competing with at RF, Turang has a big name in Ketel Marte he has to compete with, but Turang was credited with 21 DRS whereas Marte was credited with only 10.

Good chance the Brewers come away with two GGs.

I remember a Rob Neyer article from years ago long before any of the current defensive metric were invented looking at Andruw Jones defense and some other OFers and it came to the conclusion that while he was good a big part of his stats at the time was that he tended to take a large share of easier outs that other fielders also could have gotten too. I haven't studied the current methodologies closely in quite some time, but I wonder if the Brewers OFers defensive numbers run into a bit of a ceiling because they are so good they are competing against each other for those opportunities (and now probably some higher difficulty outs in between them).

Does Turang have a shot at a platinum glove? I know a couple AL players had high drs but I think Turang had the most in the NL. Is there 1 platinium for each league or is it just 1 league wide?

I would say he has a shot. Though, hitting, OAA, and the small market factor may work against him.

If Lindor was a finalist, I would say he'd be the favorite.

Probably between Turang, Bailey, Swanson, and Chapman.

Turang led all of MLB regardless of position in DRS.  He definitely has a shot.

Fangraphs sorts by positions not overall. The link I showed comes directly from the Fielding Bible website.

Don't believe me, here's Varsho's individual page on Fangraphs: https://www.fangraphs.com/players/daulton-varsho/19918/stats?position=OF

So, what is "Qualified?"  I noticed Frelick isn't on there, but when I set it to 0 games, it shows DRS of 16.

If Frelick has a DRS of 16 and has only 776 innings, calculating it out to Turang's 1277 innings would give Frelick a DRS of 26.  Crazy.

I noticed the Fielding Bible has Frelick at 1132 innings and 15 DRS.

If we can keep everyone healthy next year and get a good defense IF, I don't think it wouldn't be crazy to have GG finalist at all positions except 1st and maybe P. I think Mitchell, Frelick, Chourio, Perkins, and Turang could all be around +20 run defensive guys if they can play 140+ games at 1 spot. Nuts

I wonder about this too, especially with the metrics that only consider the plays they make. If Perkins or Mitchell range over to a gap and make a great catch, that doesn't mean that Frelick or Chourio weren't in a position to make an equal (or better!) catch.

In an interview with a OAA guy and a DRS guy, they were talking about Elly De La Cruz. The OAA guy said he didn't care about errors at all because EDLC makes so many incredible plays to make up for them. But it made me wonder, if EDLC played next to Joey Ortiz, wouldn't Ortiz make A LOT of those plays before EDLC is ABLE to make an incredible play?

It's kind of funny looking at Adames, Turang and Ortiz specifically...

DRS says Adames (-16), Turang (+21), and Ortiz (+7) for a combined total of +12.

FRV says Adames (0), Turang (+4), and Ortiz (+8) also summing up to +12.

Both systems are getting to the same end result, just in drastically different ways (at least with regards to Adames and Turang).

I've noticed dozens of time this year where Adames defers to Turang to make a "more difficult" play up the middle...but not for Bryce.  Most times the 2B defers to the SS on plays up the middle but not this years Brewers.  Kudos to all, coaches, Turang and probably most of all Adames.
