Underrated even as a HOFer. Nobody has been scarier standing at 1b.

I'd imagine whoever hit #2 in the order was told to never, ever swing at the first couple of pitches.

In 1998 he led the AL in stolen bases as a 39 year old. He stole 36 bases at age 41. The guy was amazing.

I would have liked Luzardo. I guess we weren’t a good match after the Nester trade though.

I tried to log in on my iPad. Turns out it was an etch-a-sketch and I don't own an iPad. Also, I'm out of vodka.

I feel like the amount given up for Josh Naylor, Luzardo, and now Nate Lowe has been surprisingly low.

Naylor has only 1 year of control and isn't good defensively so that one isn't to surprising.

For Luzardo Caba and Bryd seems like a light return. Both guys are athletic and Caba was a big int. signing but he basically had a year like Flippo di Turri (more steals). I get that he is a near top 100 prospect but outside of speed meh (same for Bryd).

Lowe just went to Washington for Robert Garcia an average lefty reliever (era 2 runs higher than FIP). I would have been all over Lowe for essentially Elvis Peguero. I bet that means there is little chance we can move Rhys.

Garcia was on a whole different level peripherally from Peguero last year. Ranks are among 160 relievers with at least 50 IP in 2024..,

Peguero
92 K%+ (125th) | 146 BB%+ (141st)
99 FIP- (108th) | 4.12 SIERA (134th)

Garcia
133 K%+ (27th) | 78 BB%+ (35th)
59 FIP- (10th) | 2.71 SIERA (19th)

Lowe is gonna cost something like $25M for his last two years of control, unless TEX installs Garcia as closer (which they might with those periphs and all the red on his StatCast page) he likely won’t make that much for his five years of remaining control.

Nate Lowe would have been my guy if we salary dumped Hoskins. I hope we can find a guy like him next year.

Can you believe Spring Training games start in 60 days?  February 22, Brewers play the Reds, not sure when they report.  Its not that far away now.

February 15th for the Brewers others as soon as February 10th.

So about 7 or so weeks until the Brewers report to spring training.  Probably going to be hotter than normal.  So if anyone is coming to spring training expect it to be a bit warmer.  We haven’t had many days below 40 so far this winter in Phoenix.

Gleyber Torres is a Tiger for one year at $15M.

His 113 wRC+ is 8th among primary second basemen over the last three years, but his -8.0 BsR is dead last while his glove has never been any good either with -14 DRS | -18 FRV for his career at 2B.

On the one hand it’s kind of crazy the 2nd youngest FA on the market could only get one year, but on the other hand when you’re a second baseman who already can’t run or field at age 27 it doesn’t really bode well for the future either.

The LA Deferrals are at it again

Ha, yes, but everyone does understand deferrals don't skirt anyone past any luxury tax punishments or anything like that at this point, right? If not, spend 10 minutes Googling how this works.
