I’m a little annoyed at the playoff race this year because the list of playoff teams is practically settled and there is still so much baseball to play. The only NL spot in play is Mets (90%) vs Reds (8%, 2.5  GB). The AL isn’t much better with primarily the Mariners (87%) and Red Sox (90%) fighting off the Royals (15%), Rangers (9%) and Guardians (7%). Let’s hope for something interesting in September like a Mets or Red Sox collapse to keep me interested in non Brewers baseball.

The Yankees doomsday media stories are pretty fun and they are 95% and that would be great to see but I think it’s very unlikely, they are probably on track to make the playoffs and get knocked before the WS.

I tried to log in on my iPad. Turns out it was an etch-a-sketch and I don't own an iPad. Also, I'm out of vodka.

I just thought of something that the player's union might actually go for as far as expanding rosters on September 1st.  Their complaint was that veterans would be benched and thus make it harder for them to achieve their incentives

Rosters can expand to 30 on 9/1 with the following conditions:

  • Only 28 can be active per game (similar to the NFL)
  • Vested veterans (5+ years service time) cannot be inactive for more than one game after 9/1

Allows teams to give vested veterans a rest day down the stretch, but not significantly impede them from achieving any incentives, while giving teams an extra arm in the bullpen.

So you want current players to concede playing time (you did nothing to stop this from happening) and the owners to concede money and service time.

Not gonna happen.

Logically all that would happen is the previous 2 days starters would be the inactives.

Remember what Yoda said:

"Cubs lead to Cardinals. Cardinals lead to dislike. Dislike leads to hate. Hate leads to constipation."

That would mostly be mitigated by the vested veterans not being able to be inactive more than once.

There would be more to this, I was just keeping it simple.

How would the current players concede playing time?

Devers is a cancer.  I'm sure the pitcher yelled to stop watching the ball.  I call BS on Devers "seeing if it was fair."

I cannot believe that Trent Grisham has more homers than any Milwaukee Brewer.

That is my off day thought.

I'd be curious to see how many of his HRs are Yankee Stadium short porch homers.

Padres swept by the Orioles

So glad we got rid of that guy. Isn't that like the third time this season he's given up three straight homers?

The battle for the WC in the NL seems to have been pretty much locked in for a while, but the last spot in the AL is quite a bit more interesting. Seattle currently has the last spot, but with 4 pursuers between 1.5 and 3 games behind them. The closest of those teams is Texas, who the Brewers are taking on next week in Arlington. They will be desperados, so it should really be playoff-like tension for that series.

Wow, ending to the Dodgers/Orioles game was crazy.  Dodgers were up 3-0 and Yamamoto had a no hitter through 26 outs before giving up a HR to Jackson Holliday.  Then the Dodger bullpen couldn't get the 27th out and the Orioles ended up walking it off 4-3.

Feel like that's karma for Pages trying to play the Holliday HR off the wall instead of trying to rob it while 1 out from a no hitter.

What?  I turned it off after Holliday hit the dinger to break up the no-no.  Wow!

We're getting closer to sewing up the NL playoff picture. Right now, seeds 1-6 (in some order) look reasonably safe. The AL, though, has some really fun races going on, especially for that final WC spot.
