Yes and I'm sure if the Brewers wanted to offer Jacob Misiorowski maybe they could convince the Marlins to trade him.

Or they could just wait for Jesus Made.

That's like 3 years away. There is more than one way to bake a cake.

Sure but back to my first point, the Marlins aren't very likely to trade the guy unless it's part of a big deal. Marlins are a last place team, they don't need to push for the playoffs.

Edwards doesn't hit arbitration until 2027, he's is exactly the type of guy the Marlins want to hold on to. Let's say they think about trading him with a year of control left. That's what, 2029?

There's your 3 or 4 years. Like I said, they could just wait for Made or Pratt.

Or he's part of a trade package to get a front of the rotation type starter.

My point is were in the playoff hunt this year "2025" and Ortiz can't hit a .200 avg at best.  There has to be something we can do to better ourselves at the SS position in the meantime. That is all I'm saying. Ortiz is not our answer until the 2029 season.

Depending how things go, Cooper Pratt could be in the mix at SS as early as 2027.

Ortiz bottomed out with a .170 average over his first 159 plate appearances this year, but has hit for a .243 average in his last 86 plate appearances. Last year he hit for a .239 average over 511 plate appearances.

I don't have an issue with you wanting to explore upgrades at SS. I just don't view Edwards as a realistic target. He's a good player, I'm not saying you're wrong to like him. My opinion is that the price to trade for Edwards right now would make the Brewers choose to wait for Made or Pratt instead.

I will admit he is not getting worse as the season progresses. Maybe that sore arm he had at the beginning of the season just got him off to a slow start.

Pratt is only about 1 calendar year away depending on how he plays and how aggressive they want to be. Although we may be looking to fill 2 spots (SS and 3B) but a lot can change in 1 year, maybe Durbin sticks.

I tried to log in on my iPad. Turns out it was an etch-a-sketch and I don't own an iPad. Also, I'm out of vodka.

Getting someone like Wilkins up next year at 3B isn't out of the question either.  Not that Durbin is much better, but Durbin to 2B and Turang to SS fixes it too.

"Rock, sometime, when the team is up against it, and the breaks are beating the boys, tell 'em to go out there with all they got and win just one for the Uecker. I don't know where I'll be then, Rock but I'll know about it; and I'll be happy."

I don't think Ortiz or Durbin are going anywhere, including Nashville. The skills they offer are good skills to have on the team. But I DO think that the Brewers could try a different internal candidate for a bench/platoon option. A Wilken for Monasterio switch would at least give the Brewers a big thumper threat off the bench or in a limited starting role.

Maybe Durbin will go the Sal route of development. Great defense, so so offense in year 1 and then the bat comes around in year 2.

Last 15 games Ortiz is batting 340 and ops of 733.

I don't know what's been up with Ortiz, but it has seemed during the past couple of weeks like he has been deliberately trying to not do too much, just get the bat on the ball and hit singles.  That relatively low OPS compared to BA bears that out.  I'm hoping last night's power surge is the fruit of a deliberate plan to build him back up to hitting the ball with authority, rather than just a lucky (double) strike, but who knows.

Since the date of the original post (June 8),  .333/.333/474/807

We inspired Joey's turnaround! It reminds me of something Ned Yost got from Bobby Cox. When you're ready to bench a guy, give him another week.

I live in Georgia where Brewer fans are rare.

A friend of mine got my daughter a signed Christian Yelich card for her Confirmation back in the middle of May. Yeli went on a tear shortly after that.

I mentioned it to the guy-that he must be good luck-and he asked me, "Well, who else on the team needs to improve?" I mentioned Joey's sub-.200 BA.

On June 10th, he handed me a signed Joey Ortiz card.

Who should I tell him about next?

I'd vote Chourio.

He looked like he was turning it around going off for a 313/358/548 (150 wRC+) triple slash over 123 PA from 05/21 to 06/20 but has been brutal the last five games with 23 PA of 095/130/095 (-42 wRC+).

Or Contreras

Sounds like his fracture would take about 2-3 weeks to heal properly. If true, they should shut him down. Then his bat wouldn't need any hocus pocus, signed baseball card juju.

If we're going to deal in superstition, I'd suggest telling the guy to get a mojo hand (any blues fans here?) and ship it to Garrett Mitchell to get him over the injury bug. That guy should be a 20+HR bat in the lineup if it wasn't for all these stupid, flukey setbacks.

Yea I'd try to wrap this around the ASB. At this point I think they've tried just playing through it a long enough try.  Getting him back to his normal self would be huge to finish the year.   Haase is solid and can fill in for a couple weeks and not kill you, I think Alfaro is still sitting aaa as an experienced long time pro who can play 1-2 times a week and be passable.

Do any of you just give yourself a second or two and just dream of a scenario where all these guys end up being good instead of just okay?

If they had 2 Frelicks (Durbin), and 2 Turangs (Ortiz), and 2 MVPs (Chourio).

In that scenario, this team is gunna be SO FUN to watch going forward.
