Can't believe Hoskins swung on a 3-0 count. Collins is a beast!

He was given the green light because of the situation and just missed a hittable pitch.  It was a reasonable gamble.  Fortunately Collins didn't miss his pitch.

Dammit Rhys

He is the one we need to trade if we had another decent 1st baseman. Bauers is a valuable punch hitter.

Reminder Collins was a minor league Rule 5 snipe by our scouting department years ago.

Never stop digging for gems, no matter the avenue.

Yea but does he move a needle?

Well the issue is when Perkins and Mitchell return that he will be going down. Can't send down Monasterio over Collins because then you have no backup infielders and Collins is more of an emergency infielder not a legit option at 2B/3B.

That or it will be down to Collins or Perkins for the final roster spot considering Mitchell is likely guaranteed a spot.

I'd beg to differ on Collins as not a legit option in the infield. He has almost 1500 minor league innings at 2B and just over 2000 in the OF. He spent roughly 40% of his pro career in the infield. As a bench bat, I think his above average bat and below average IF defense is worth a lot more than Mona's average to above average defense and awful bat.

With Mitchell and a Perkins coming back, what do you do with them? I imagine Perkins gets optioned to AAA with Chourio, Mitchell, Collins and Frelick splitting  up the at bats in the outfield.

This would be my decision as well. Knock on wood but wait for the next injury to someone for Perkins to make his season debut.

Trade bate for one of them.

What has Mitchell done to have an automatic spot?  He was horrible before the injury, so why should he get a spot automatically?

Chourio and Frelick are givens, but if Collins keeps it up, not a chance they send him back down.

Mitchell (returning first) takes Cameron's spot, probably next week.  Perkins takes the full month of rehab, then see where we are between him vs. Mitchell vs. injuries in the meantime vs. the approaching trade deadline.
