Yea, this whips ass. Of course there are more deserving players, but MLB has a viewership problem and Miz is the closest thing the sport has to a phenom at the moment. People are gonna tune in to see him throw. Enjoy it.

Seeing a lot of 'The All Star Game has lost all meaning now' as though 2002 didn't happen, apparently. Good for the kid, this is obviously a buzz play by MLB and by the way they should do more of it considering the struggles they've had for decades now. Promote all the young stars you can.

In one of the old baseball abstracts, Bill James recounted a conversation where someone asked Robin Yount who he thought should pick all-stars. James admired Robin‘s response, which was basically that the answer to that question depended on who the game was supposed to be for. It’s an exhibition game, designed to entertain the fans, so Robin thought it made great sense for the fans to vote on All-Stars. That seems especially thoughtful coming from a Hall of Famer who only ever made three All-Star teams.

Miz is a deserving All-Star given the purpose of the game. He’s entirely humble about it. I’m very happy for him. I don’t think he’ll forget that he’s going to need to do a lot more of this if he’s really going to make his mark.

The interview makes you want to love the player and not just performance:

Listening to his comments since arriving here, the kid is about as perfect a blend of confidence, yet humility, that you can get. He's incredibly easy to pull for so I'm happy for him. But this is like the opposite of the Kershaw selection. Legacy pick vs media-driven, eyeballs-tuning-in pick.

But mostly happy for him.

That secures him when naming him Rookie of the Year.  If his odds aren't top 3 already, put that bet down.  He wiped the floor not only against Kershaw but Paul Skenes already.  It's more than deserved. Now does Freddy and Jacob pitch 2 innings with McGill 1, to close the game out?  5 innings covered by Brewers?

This is bananas but good for Jacob. What a wild start to a career. That 12 K performance vs. the Dodgers made this even possible. With so few starts if that doesn't happen, and the timing of it happening right as rosters are being announced, I don't think he has a prayer of being selected as a replacement. Ride the wave young man!

Weirdly I think this actually helps keep his innings down, pitch one inning in the ASG and sit for another week once the games start up again. He'd likely have a downtime throwing session in there anyway. Go have an immaculate inning and put the cherry on top of this hype train.

Selflessly, amazing for the kid. Excited this enigma is happening here in Milwaukee.

Selfishly, probably locks up ROTY or at least runner up and we will lose a year of control. Great again for him, too bad for us

Do we get a draft pick if he wins ROTY?

I don't believe so. I think that incentive is to encourage teams to have rookies on the opening day roster.

Megill replaced Freddy on the All-Star game roster because Freddy is starting Sunday.  You won’t see all 3 of them.

Great for Miz!

My initial thought was too much, too soon.  Stuff like this can overwhelm many who are not ready to handle the added attention.  I personally was thrust into some things at an early age.  Upon reflection, I really wish I had taken a more conventional, steady path.  I had the ability, but not the moxie that comes with time.

Who picks replacements?

According to Google the commissioner’s office.  Not sure the validity of that.

Good for him, but I don't think it's deserved, yet.

*edit*

I think Uribe is more deserving at this time.
