Looks like we aren’t getting Underwood

Quite the bummer ... The #1, I thought, out of that 11-20 group.

Still so confused how a ($750K?) offer does not beat a college offer if this is what you want to do with your life. You are taking the guess that after 3 years of college, you will be a top 60-ish pick ... versus the math involved of this 6 years vs those 6 years.

Dunno. Maybe I'm missing something in the college coach relationship (or other relationships) vs the scout/Brewer relationship.

Wish the kid the best. Was loving the idea of a Cairone & Underwood bonus to the staff in 2032-7.

While not signing Underwood is disappointing, that should potentially leave enough money to really go after Cadiz, a player that the system imo, needs more than another pitcher.

The pitching signed thru the first 10 rounds is already stronger than what we signed in the last 2 drafts 1-10. Cadiz, Hughes & Lauridsen would make for a nice trio of talent.

Agreed on the hitting needed. Although we seem to have some strong international groups of late to maybe cover it.

Unsure this draft will have the depth without Underwood. Lefty with projection who can also spin the ball, to me, is a $1MM kid, as that seems to be a very limited group to get.

Hopefully, the pivot works enough to sign enough of the other high upside kids they picked in 11-20 ... which I thought was a great idea. Just disappointed as Underwood looked to be the potential biggest get.

Cadiz does look good. Etc ....  Spend the $2.3MM and get 3-4 of the h.s. kids, plus Coil.

CJ Hughes took down his pinned college commit stuff on Instagram. Can probably lock him in as signing.

Dude... If I ever need someone found, I'm coming to you. Eye of a hawk

Disagree on your potential lack of depth take without Underwood.

Getting the 2 lefties from the early rounds and Flores adds plenty of upside pitching, imo, to an already stacked upper and lower minors system.

Arm talent in this system is as deep as any team in baseball, imo.

Completely agree on what is in the system. Just wanted more.  :-)

Oh please.
‘And another signing. I am hoping for 4-5 “day 3” picks. We know Route, Mills. Expect Coil. And I’d love 2 more - hopefully Hughes and another.

I would love adding Cadiz's ascending young bat at the hot corner to add into the position player mix.

Cadiz is the make or break of a decent draft to a good draft for me

For what it’s worth, which is not a lot Hughes and Cadiz are following brewers content on twitter. Underwood never did.

Ebel, Hughes, and Cadiz would be a fun little infield to grow with. Some positional flexibility around the entire infield as well.

Tomorrow is the last day, we have budget and there are high schoolers to sign, let’s get it

I tried to log in on my iPad. Turns out it was an etch-a-sketch and I don't own an iPad. Also, I'm out of vodka.

Maybe he just values a college education more than $$?

Is everyone ready for "Brewers Day" otherwise known as the draft signings deadline day?  The Brewers unique strategy they have used over the last number of years makes them the focus of the deadline.  Annually only about 5-10 players in rounds 11-20 sign for over $500K and the Brewers tend to have about a quarter of them.

Today's wishlist:

Cadiz - 1.2M

Hughes - 600K

Lauridsen - 600K

Roupe - 300K

Coil - 214K

Leftover money - $255

Let's get it done!

I am pretty sure that such a player can sign with an MLB team and later also apply for scholarship $ in order to get a degree. But it's true that everyone is motivated by different things. Apparently he really wants to play college ball just now. He was also the one I had most hoped they could sign.

I should clarify that MLB has a scholarship fund he can apply for.

I think some that actually sign, also have it written into their contract, that their college education gets paid in full, if their baseball career doesn't pan out.

Well, you don't need to be 18 to go to college.  If 18, and offered a bunch more money than you may ever get a chance to make - what if he gets hurt in college and doesn't come back well - in the career you are going into anyway, I would think 99 out of 100 folks take the $$.
Just bummed, looking at a ceiling somewhere around a Max Fried/Cole Hamels type.  Not a ton of those guys around, ever.  Between Levonas last year and Underwood this year, the Crew could rue missing on some future #2 starters.

Chalk it up to might be a big reach but Braylon Payne is now following Ma'Kale Holden on instagram. That was definitely not the case until today.

It's not only the "money vs college" choice. For some kids it is the college experience, and delaying that adult job for a bit. College sports is a huge draw for many, and yes the very elite (1st/2nd round types) will usually sign as they want to be a pro now, the next tier (and even a some in that top tier) want the college experience and then hope to sign and join the MLB.

Though my hopes for Cadiz have gotten pretty slim as he's still playing in the WCL as of last night. He's crushing that league. Basically a Top 10 hitter in the entire league.

While early, Levonas hasn’t exactly impressed as a freshman. Now, it’s not the end of the world to underperform as a freshman, but he’s gonna have to light the world on fire as a sophomore and junior if he wants to make as much as he could’ve last year.
