Fun draft.  I’m not going to pretend to have any insight beyond reading up on profiles but the approach they have followed is very familiar as far I’m concerned.  I love the first four picks.

Fischer can flat out hit with pop but without sacrificing a hit tool which is what I like to look at when I’m trying to project guys up the ladder.  If the hit tool isn’t there in college, I’d have my doubts the way I feel about accuracy from a college QB.  In any event, Fischer is advanced and it will be nice to have a young addition to the middle of the lineup in due time as anticipated.

I’ve got a good feeling about Thompson. He’s got that quality lefty feel who knows how to pitch.  Maybe he can be a future Quintana.  He’s not huge but may not need to be.  As an anticipated floor he can be a set up reliever but I am hoping mid- to back of the rotation.

Picks 11-14 fascinate me in particular.  How many of those can we pull?  That’s top of mind for me.  If anyone knows how to navigate that, it’s the Brewers.  Imagine if we can get 3-4 of them.  The heart of this thing to me are the first four picks and then 11-14, not that I’m meaning to exclude anyone.

It’s so nice to have 100% confidence in the scouting and drafting team including Tod Johnson, Ginger Poulson and company.  We can just sit back and look at who signs as opposed to questioning the criteria and analysis.

I have been following the draft, including on this site, for roughly 20 years.  This may be my favorite collection of prospects the brewers have drafted in one draft (I also very much liked the 2020 shortened draft).  You don't have a top 20 type of player, but a number of prospects that have a chance to make it to the major leagues.

I've almost been hitting refresh on this particular board on the forum as often as I would when a trade is about to break in the hopes there is more news about draft picks signing. I realize it's probably a bit early yet but I am stoked to get some of these guys into the system.

Maybe it means something, maybe it doesn't but both Rylan Mills and Cooper Underwood are following Malachai Halterman on instagram. Halterman was a HS UDFA signing .

I love little detective nuggets like this.

Can’t imagine that much overslot for Mills right? A SEMO commit can’t have that much for NIL if any lol.

Seems like someone who would sign for like $200-250K so only like $50-100K going towards the bonus pool.

I imagine we’ll see some of the slot or below ones trickle in, but I am wondering if they are going to officially sign and introduce Fischer and maybe the second rounders at Friday’s game. Anything official with any significantly above slot signings would have to wait until after that logistically.

I have a hunch we might get some confirmations of guys signing and their $$$ tomorrow or Tuesday. Especially when guys like Mills were traveling today to AZ

I'd say you're probably right that a few will filter through, with the tougher, later signings left until the end.

They'll want to have a strong idea of their bonus pool before confirming those negotiations although they will have ballpark figures in mind

With Brock not signing, I’m hoping to get all 3 of the positionals left signed 11-20. Hughes-Mills & Cadiz. Cadiz might be a tough one, but positional upside like his might be more important to add to the system than a couple more pitchers with the state of the arm talent throughout the farm.

Don’t forget international signings are always position heavy, and the Brewers have over 7 million to sign there.

I won't break the paywall, but anyone with a BA subscription should take a loot at Eli-Ben Porats statcast standouts, covering Braylon Owens and, very very intriguingly, Parker Coil

Sounds like Coil has a very good sweeper, and then my inference (not stated at all by BA) is that he could be a pitcher who could be "Yoho" type in that a couple of very good pitches and some development could see him move up. Again BA reviewed his pitches, and I only paraphrased a half a sentence of the write up, but my take home / interpretation from the BA article was very good pitch, and could be a solid move quick reliever if things go right.

They did have a lot to say on Owens and my interpretation of it is a guy with a bunch of good pitches but needs refinement, which is something this org has done well with over the past several years.

Nobody should be upset the team with one of the best pitcher development structures in baseball took a lot of pitchers… but if you are this is very true lol.

Not too upset about Brock at all. Looked like more of an athlete than a baseball player and you’re betting on his Juco video game success translating over to the SEC. He’s already 21 and while he’s a great lump of clay as an athlete I’d like the lottery tickets from the draft to be a bit younger, so they can get more extra time to develop. Hughes and Underwood and I’m a happy camper. Sprinkle in Cadiz or Lauridsen and that’s even better.

Best of luck kid.

I don't know why it took me until now - actually I do as Walla Walla locals called Cadiz 'Dom' it just didn't click - but Cadiz was absolutely tearing it up with the Walla Walla sweets before the Brewers took him in this year's draft. He represented them in the All Star game. He absolutely looks the part of a pro baseball player. Personally, in the rare chance they sign him (fingers crossed!), I think they start him out at 3B though, it is the Brewers, they'll likely give him opportunities at SS too. This young man showcased he can absolutely mash in the post-HS circuit. He was a monster in the West Coast League.
