Don Sutton

Still a lot of pictures of obscure players without labels.

But how could you go past 21 without a picture of the architect of possibly the biggest clutch SP performance in Brewers history?

You could use him for 20 too because he switched to that after Gorman Thomas was traded.

I haven’t seen any.  Maybe we are just bigger Brewers fans!!!

If it were up to me - and I doubt I’m alone in this - #20 would be retired. Gorman Thomas might not actually be worthy by the numbers, but he was as beloved as any Brewer ever. Well, by me anyway. To this day, if anyone asks who my favorite player is, that’s my answer.

This is the answer.  You are not alone.

We, as a society, retire too many numbers. This has been my Ted Talk.

Ok, Toby Flenderson. I kid.

Am I correct that you were born after the ‘80s? Not casting aspersions towards younger generations - I am sure I undervalued players before my time, and am possibly overvaluing players of my early fandom.

I agree. That is what team halls of fame are for, or in the Brewers' case, the Walk of Fame.

Reggie White type players get their number retired. As much as I loved Thomas and think of him every time I see a Brewers uniform with the number 20 on it, he just wasn't that type of guy.

No, I'm in my 50s. Big Ben Oglivie fan.

The Brewers have only retired numbers of Hall of Famers.

I think that's a good bar.
