Playing with fire

I agree.  Murphy and Arnold have gotten us this far, so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt.... but I really wish we'd save Ashby for innings that matter. Between Gasser, Myers, Patrick, etc, it seems like we should position ourselves to make sure the next man in is always ready...

But who knows, odds are, we'll have a washed-up journeyman (Fedde) throw 5 innings of shutout ball tonight and will win 11-8, meanwhile the Cubs lose, and folks will forget about the loss of momentum that we had over the past 7-10 days.

Fear not, Brice is going yard three times tonight and will lead the way

Who says the Brewers suck?

I think there is a difference between criticizing a specific player's performance or a poor managerial decision, and saying the team sucks...

The Brewers are a really great organization, though like any organization, we have our warts.  People are bought in like I haven't seen them since 2018, but are nervous because of the collapses in recent years and late in games.

Our margin for error is so small, and its remarkable that our manager and our GM are able to get so much out of this team and develop the pipeline of talent we have coming in despite our cheap owner and the frustrating lack of a level playing field in MLB.

While LAD and NYY and other big markets win a ton, that is for the "Walmart Fans" that like programs like Michigan, OSU, Florida, George, Bama...  it will mean more when the underdog actually wins one.

If we get close to the WS, I think we will have a TON of people joining the Brewers bandwagon.  Some, because they want the little guy to win, and some because they like the big boys, but want the little guy to win every once in awhile so they can convince themselves that "buying a championship" is the same as developing skills, players, culture, and momentum to overcome the odds.

Read the game thread yesterday. Literally someone said they suck.

So that explains why we avoided Miller last night in the 8th inning until we absolutely HAD to get Koenig out of there. The 9th was his. That was the biggest negative about the win, Myers not able to go 3-4 innings after Misiorowski.

I'll admit, I was feeling good about the pitching situation when Myers was handed the 6-3 lead that increased to 8-3.  As a starter who has been better in relief, he needed to get through the 8th if not finish the game.

Imagine the headache if we had gone 11-12 innings last night.

It was McGee for however long the game lasted…….which probably wouldn’t have been long.

Very fortunate to get out of there with a W in 9

Frelick and Collins on the bench with Bauers at DH.

They might not be punting but they’re in formation. Feels a lot like Saturday night, but without a Webb like starter maybe the Brewers can get into a slugfest.

If the game goes sideways quickly they might punt.

Siegler isn’t in the lineup,so he should be ready to take the mound if allowed.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

Will someone PLEASE edit the thread title?!

(I'm just kidding. @treego14was put on the 7-Day IL this morning with rheumatoid flare ups in his typing fingers. Too many catchy poems.)

I somehow managed to change the thread title; miraculous recovery!  :classic_biggrin:

Monasterio has been hot, and Lockridge has hit decently well as a Brewer.   We'll miss Frelick for sure, but having a couple nice PH opportunities later will be nice.

Hopefully Perkins can get it going.  Not thrilled with Bauers, but what are you going to do.

Durbin is in, so I'm happy :P

Ok, first post. Flame the newbie. My takes:

Brewers are the perfect team (not the best but perfect). Hungry ballplayers, no real big egos, no real big paychecks. Coach with grit and sarcastic humor...knows the game. No trade deadline nonsense. A real team. A chance to win it all.

My formula to 1-seed across the playoffs. Crew-current-wins + (Crew-gamestogo)/2. compared with any other team winning 2/3 of remaining. When we exceed that threshold we are the seed king.   Not saying we're going 500 the rest of the way but I think that's our floor. Not saying someone will go 666 the rest of the way but I bet someone will. CUBS could go 666 I'm betting with easy schedule.

Contreras is the Crews MVP without a doubt. Let's not just look at numbers boys! That guy has managed a banged up mob of young and old and up and down and this and that pitchers to being one of the best conglomerate staffs in baseball this year. "Patches" Contreras I'm calling him. He'll keep em going to game 7 if need be.

All I got, let's sweep the snakes and the bluebirds!!

The current pitching situation shows why it wasn’t wise to just dump off Cortez

Exactly. Just three weeks after deeming Cortes expendable they’re signing starting pitchers off the street praying to get innings out of them.

i don’t pretend to understand the shuffling that went around with absorbing Jansen’s and Jordan Montgomery’s salary while shedding part of Nestor’s, but with Hall, Henderson and now Megill on the IL and Misiorowski with about 20-30 innings left in his arm for ‘25; I’d sure rather have Cortes than Lockridge.

i'm hoping Ashby only goes one inning tonight. We can't afford to lose him to injury too.

That's pretty much all I'm expecting. Maybe he starts the 2nd inning but doesn't finish it.

I don’t think we are punting at all tonight. We will play to win, as we should. We’ve had worse looking lineups score a dozen runs.

With that said, we could easily pivot to survival and preserve mode if things go run. You could say that most days, though.
