It sounds like tonight's game might be in jeopardy, due to the smoke situation.  Brewers had an FB post about it.

Questions are a burden.   And answers a prison for one's self.

There is some reason to hope that things will get better in time to decide to proceed with the game.

We have tickets for tomorrow and I will say that if tomorrow would be like yesterday we wouldn’t be going even if they played. Sitting in that kind of smoke, even with a mask on, would be extremely uncomfortable.

I'll be surprised if they don't play tonight.  Rescheduling a game with a team that only has one series here would be a pain (and a doubleheader later this weekend doesn't seem like the air quality answer either).

Remember: the Brewers never panic like you do.

No one else is asking so I feel I must be either dumb or ignorant, so I must remove all doubt by asking this question.

Can’t they just improve the situation by … closing the roof?

I seem to recall them working to install some A/C upgrades awhile back, but I’m not sure how much outside air needs to be in as part of that process that could impact things.  Also, I think stuff like the concourses are open air?  I’m not usually looking away from the field, but I think there might be limits to how much they can “seal up” the field

Nearly 900 active fires continue to burn and about six million acres have been torched.

I don't think its going away any time soon.

It’s not going to go away completely but how bad it is will depend on the winds and upper air patterns.

We had on and off smoke problems 3 years ago but it was never even close to as bad as it was yesterday. Sometimes it created a hazy sky but didn’t reach the ground.

As for closing the roof I don’t think the stadium is that airtight to seal things out completely. They probably will do that if it will allow them to play the game. But that would make it so stiflingly hot and humid for the fans that it would be miserable to sit through.

Your indoor air is as good as your outdoor air, plus whatever filtration mechanisms you can employ. During COVID, there was a push for institutions (schools, hospitals, corporate offices, colleges, etc.) to invest recovery money into better filtration systems, but a lot of that infrastructure work never got done (mainly because of political gridlock and general COVID skepticism).

I'm not sure what the ventilation at AmFam is like, but if you're clocking AQI in the 300s, it's going to get overwhelmed pretty quickly. If it's 170 or so, that's still bad, but your ventilation can probably help out.

A lot of this is also about fan safety and community health. It's generally not a good idea to be holding large public events when the AQI is this unhealthy, especially in urban areas where AQI tends to be worse, and traffic volume can be a contributor.

Things appear to be improving, so it's very possible the game occurs. Take care of yourself if you're going. I know there's a stupid and weird social stigma around masking, but it's very helpful for all kinds of reasons in this environment!

This is going to be a tough series for the Brewers.

Since falling to 26-34 at the end of May the Marlins have had the best record in MLB (26-11) 3 games better than the Phillies. Their run differential of 53 is one better than the Brewers in that stretch.

Like the Brewers the Marlins were swept in a 3 game series (by the Guardians) before the break.

Unlike the Brewers, the Marlins will be throwing their best 3 SP in this series.

Winning this series would be a good bounce back for the Brewers after last weekend.

The air is a lot better today, so the game should be fine tonight. Tomorrow and following days might be another matter.

No way they could have played yesterday. It was awful. And dangerous for some folks.

They are talking about smoke moving  in later tomorrow, but not expecting it to be as bad as yesterday.

Maybe they should think about moving the start time up from 3:10 to1:10 like teams do sometimes when strong storms are expected.
