Also, if I'm on this team right now, I have to be a little disappointed with no upgrades on offense, either by trade or from out minors.  Picking up Bae instead of dipping into our minors says a lot.  And if some were disappointed with the deadline offensively, seeing Vaughn or Bae now on the left side can't help.  Playing this year while the front office is constantly focused on 2029 would get old quickly.

You mean the pitching staff is disappointed we didn't add hitters, I presume? Surely you can't think anyone in our lineup is upset about it..

Mirrors.

Should any of our 'stars' who are under producing be calling on others to get replaced? Yelich, Contreras, Turang*, Chourio*... The sluggish offensive July is on their shoulders. If they are upset at the lack of production.. I have a mirror for them.

The guys who are producing above expectation? Bauers and Mitchell... The two guys who have benefitted the most from being given additional chances and the FO's "trust the process" approach. If they are upset we are not replacing underperforming guys... I have a mirror for them.

Lara and Pratt, the young ones? They ARE the process. The fact that Otto Lopez, Buxton, Abrams, etc were never options this season to be added is because the org trusted their own guys to be the additions. These two WERE the additions. If they are upset we didn't add..... MIRROR.

The guys who are to be replaced? Hamilton, Frelick, Ortiz, etc.. If they are upset the org isn't replacing them, that would be funny.

Vaughn is going to get 8 figures from someone next year. He owes the Brewers far more than they owe him.

Sanchez? Fine, Sanchez can be upset.

I generally fall on the side of bringing a guy like this up to get his feet wet rather than the scrap heap pick up guys.  I get they're in a weird spot with the lockout issue coming, but I think I'd still lean this route.  Unless they're very confident Ortiz will be back today/tomorrow and its no big deal and that Pratt is likely a minimum stay.  If both of those things are true I get why they've held off on doing it.  But if Pratt's injury could have some length you might as well get this guy up and get him comfortable

Chourio is not underproducing......I would have been upset if I were him watching what the guys around him did last night. He's carrying the offense right now.

Chourio was in a major slump in July but has been great in August. It's a long season, can't expect players to be hot for all 6 months. If they were they would be favorite for MVP.

This. People might disagree with the move, but it's not a Bae-Adams thing. That decision has already been made. This is all about Ortiz & whether or not he needs to be IL'ed. If he does THAT'S when things get interesting.

If Adams sees 3B in Milwaukee, he might actually be OK fielding his position. It's when he takes the ball out of his glove & makes a throw that I get concerned.

I doubt Pratt is a minimum IL stay. Hamstring strains almost never are. Chourio's "tickle" last year ended up being a month, which is what I would now expect for Pratt.

If that is the case, can they really afford to give ABs to at least two of Pratt, Hamilton, and Bae for that length of time?

I put an asterisk next to his name as a caveat in the response. His June was amazing. His July was sub .600 OPS. In the context of what I was responding to - I don't feel wrong having his name there with an asterisk.

After setting the franchise record for W's last season, they did almost nothing to upgrade an offense that went limp in the NLCS. That was the indicator to me that the front office's approach for 2026 was to stay the course, wait and see how the new CBA turns out before making any bold moves. Just easier to wait until after the lockout and let it roll until all the prospects are up. I was truly surprised they were so bold in pursuing Skubal, although I don't think we truly know what the full / specific offer was.

Or, alternatively, they believed that adding more offense would be at the expense of the league's best run prevention, or even its run-scoring, if the player acquired strikes out a lot, or is a clogger on the basepaths thus ending innings before being able to scratch one across.

Assuming most of us posting here have played ball at some level. When you're on a roster, you know who the weak links are. The guys might be friends, it's not personal, and certainly nobody would call out a teammate publicly if asked like "who needs to be replaced, who isn't pulling their weight". But privately, they know it. And when they feel like "we're close, just need to get better at ______" , it seems natural that they would get excited or disappointed from an upgrade or standing pat.

Getting Fish or Made now would give them a pick up now, almost like a Skubal pick me up, in the clubhouse.  I'll settle for an Adams.  But Arnold better get a good feel for how his clubhouse is feeling now.  If they are feeling the same as me, don't take long to make a move to the minors or risk the confidence of the team in seeing this year through to a World Series and Championship.

Are you willing to chance a clubhouse revolt if Yelich is DFA'd or benched?  Because that is literally the only option to improve the team.  Yelich has to go and if you get rid of him you will have a revolt in the clubhouse.  This would be worse than the Hader trade.

Agreed, cutting Yeli would be awful. I get he isn't producing but at this point there is no one going to come up and jump start the team. We do still have the best record in the league and miles away from the cut the rope situation.

The day ownership agrees to eat the remaining $60+M is the day pigs fly. So in reality there is zero chance Yelich is DFA’d in the foreseeable future.

Secondly, as for a clubhouse revolt for benching Yelich, that would not happen either.  Players play for money and also are competitors by nature. If benching Yelich doesn’t impact their earnings or winning, they may be empathetic to Yelich but life probably goes on as normal.

Now Turang is injured?  We are starting to run out of excuses...

"Rock, sometime, when the team is up against it, and the breaks are beating the boys, tell 'em to go out there with all they got and win just one for the Uecker. I don't know where I'll be then, Rock but I'll know about it; and I'll be happy."

After watching Bunty and Bunty Jr. last night, along with Turang possibly being hurt, I'm on board with bringing up a kid or two. Yes, it may hamstring roster manipulation in the future, but as they have proven with moves like shuffling Bryse Wilson on and off the roster, they are pretty good at staying ahead of that.

I think they are also at the point of having to tell Joey Ortiz to get his butt out to SS, or hit the IL.

With an impending lock out the Brewers do not want to add to the 40 man roster in 2026 so players can stay eligible play in 2027.  The 2027 minor league season will help construct the 2028 roster. Nashville will be an exciting baseball city next summer.

C- Quero, Dinges

1B- Burke, Adams, Bitonti

2B- Pena (Turang)

3B- Fisher, Adams

SS- Made (Pratt)

OF- Adamczewski, Payne, Williams (Lara, Chourio)

P- Hardin, Leston, DeBerry, Wichrowski (Miz, Henderson, Drohan, Sproat, Priester, Patrick, Gasser)

Brewers should turn to this top prospect to fortify infield | Brew Crew Ball

@Dave Gasper, you could at least give me some credit! I need to go back and see how many times I've started a thread like this here only to see it used as an article in BCB later...

"Rock, sometime, when the team is up against it, and the breaks are beating the boys, tell 'em to go out there with all they got and win just one for the Uecker. I don't know where I'll be then, Rock but I'll know about it; and I'll be happy."

Brewers need to do SOMETHING to spark this offense. At this point it's reaching "definition of insanity" levels. I don't know if I've ever seen the offense as a whole just go into a prolonged slump like this. Yet we just keep running the same group out there.

Posted

And if the defensive issues are the question, both of the bunty scrapper utility guys botched balls in the last two games.   With them saying Pratt isn't a minimum stay, I think they should try this move to change something up. Let him play every day for a couple weeks, Hamilton to backup

Dumb question, but will any lockout only impact people on the 40 man roster?  I assumed it would be all MLB and MiLB players... or maybe I'm reading into your statement too much.

MiLB are under a different contract. They are part of a different union. Now with owners basically wanting to kill the minor leagues not sure how that works, but they won't be part of the lockout due to expiring contract.

All players on the 40 man fall under the MLB CBA which ends on December 1st 2026.

The MiLB CBA ends on December 1st 2027 so minor league players not on the 40-man fall under this CBA.

Not sure kill is the right word here.  They still want a minor league system just far smaller.
