I’m surprised this hasn’t been speculated at all, or maybe it has been and I missed it.

Say the Brewers win it all. Isn’t there at least the chance that at that point, Murphy steps down?

I mean, he may win a 3rd straight MOTY year award, too. If you couple that with a World Series ring, is there really anything left to accomplish?

I am only speculating and could be totally off base, maybe he just absolutely loves the work and wants to do it for another 10 years no matter what happens. But most people are not making any long-term plans around their job at age 67, particularly the few at that age who have young children.

Finally get to meet him tonight at an autograph signing in Gurnee of all places. I won't mind one bit if I encounter grumpy Murphy.

Thank you for that, wiguy. That was a fun read.

Question about fangraphs gift article: Is that a gift from you or from FG? And does it have a click limit? Thought a couple of my non-bf friends would get a kick but I wanted to check if it’s ok to share the link beforehand.

This possibility has been in the back of my mind, as well, but since it was predicated on an outcome I scarcely dared to whisper, I never mused it out loud.

But it wouldn’t surprise me if he rode off into the sunset. And it wouldn’t surprise me if he stayed another five years, either.

He seems to love it……has never really made big money until now.

I’d be really surprised if he walked away from the extension he just signed last offseason.

I think he enjoys the spotlight actually and the position he is in. It's not like he already got his payday as a player and has nothing to live for. He finally makes it to the peak of his career and earns a below average salary of $3M/yr (compare to Counsell at $8M/yr). He's a competitive guy with a young family. I'm betting he wants to get paid.

From me. Members of the site can gift articles for others to read. You can share the link with others as well. Don't think it has a click limit but I think it has a time limit. I think the link is good for two weeks so through 10/28.

If something crazy happened like making 3 in a row, maybe, but otherwise I think like a college coach, he enjoys coaching the kids, and the youth on this team will keep him around for a bit. He wouldn't know what to do with himself at this point if he stopped coaching.
